Hey all,

I have had this compressor (Sanborn from Princess Auto) for a couple of years now and finally just got it into my new shop. I'm starting to run airlines and realized that PA/Sanborn put a 2"x 3/8" bushing in the tank. I want to replace it with a 2" x 3/4" bushing but I cannot find one in Canada, either online or on a shelf. Can any fellow Canuckistanians point me in the right direction?

Cheers!

Randy

Are you sure you need a 3/4" line? the friction loss on a short pc is very little, and I doubt you would notice any difference .
but, if you insist on it, you can probably do it ina few bushings, say 2 to 1-1/4, and 1-1/4 to 3/4 or something like that. or you may be able to drill & tap that bushing out to 3/4"
but again, I don't think you need to worry about replacing it.

I was more worried about volume loss for things like die grinders and air sanders. Am I wrong in my thinking that smaller pipe diameter = less volume?

I guess everything comes through quick disconnects which are pretty small...

the regulator, quick connects etc will be more loss that the 3/8 bushing. upsize after the bushing and you'll be fine. the cfm drop thru that short 3/8 will not be noticeable . are you running 1/2 or 3/4 lines in your shop?

I was planning on 3/4" lines with 3/4"x 1/2" TEEs for the QD outlets.

Any pipe fitting, plumbing supply or large hardware store even Home Depot will have a 2" to 3/4 reducer. It does not need to be anything special.

It won't make any difference for sanders and grinders. The main tool it effects is air impacts and only 3/4 or larger. Especially minor if this is 2 stage and has a regulator following. I have a couple 3/8 ******* in a couple of my hydranys, can't tell. Also 3/8 pipe is 7/16 nominal. A short ****** won't make make much difference especially on a toll like a sander.

Tank bushings can be a bear to remove. I cable strapped my 60 gallon upright to my 1000 lb welding table, then used a torch along with a 4 foot cheater on a pipe wrench. This burned the paint around the area, but I am restoring the whole compressor anyway, so it did not matter. I found the new 2x3/4 bushing in a local hardware store for about $4. Not everyone had them.

This also concerned me, but I have torches as well. Sounds like I am going to leave it alone and just run my lines from the bushing.

PS, nice shop cow. I have one of those too.

Tap it out. This was my first mod to my compressor. I did it before i even powered it up.

Are you sure its 2in npt? I think mine was different but it was many years ago.

I ran 3/4in air line too. The volume is great everwhere. Run the 3/4 right to the quick connect and bush it down to 3/8. I would as few quick connects as possible. For instance a hose by a vise/bench or a hose reel i would not use a quick connect to connect it to the main line.
