I have a project I'm looking to power that is using an automotive blower motor [12-15v-ish].

I would like to use a 110v to 12-15v power supply instead of the car battery I am using now for testing purposes. I came across these China power supplies and the price seems to be right [naturally]..

They claim:
30a @ 12vdc

My load is 20a startup, 4-6a running, so the 30a is overkill, but I'd rather it that than not enough.

Has anyone used one of these? Thoughts? I can't touch anything else even close to the current rating for $42.

local CB shop or Ham radio outlet should have something close, but you are right, it is tough to beat the china/offshore prices. Some are good deals, others not so much if it fails prior to "warranty" and if you can afford the shipping back and forth for a replacement.

I bought a 30 amp power werx for just over $70 from HamRadioOutlet.

best of luck.

Find yourself a computer (server) power supply--most have ratings that will handle what you want. If I can't do that I go to a surplus place nearby (going there next week in fact...) and they shelves and shelves of every kind of power supply you can imagine.

Yup. A large computer power supply will do the trick. Either from a server or from a very old power hog of a computer.

I will take a look at places that may have some old computer servers. I suppose I wasn't aware most computers were 12v based...I guess that tells you how much I have worked on them.

Computers are 12.0v.
Cars are 13.5 to 14v with the engine on and this is your target.
If you're seeing 12v, your battery is drained..

If you absolutely have to have 14v or so, just use a battery charger. Get a cheap one not one of the "smart" chargers since the smart ones wont put out any voltage without a battery hooked to them.

Hi ,

I have one which appears identical to the one in the pictur from the OP.
14 V 25 A. Small, neat, LOOKS well made....
Works OK but has a staggering amount of RFI. On the rare occasions I use it ( for electrolysis) I can not listen to the shop radio on FM.
I will never buy another one like it.

If the power supply can be a project too, try a transformer from an old ups, a diode bridge, and a capacitor.

It should be ok, it says it's made for CB/Ham.... RFI should be minimum CB/HAM radios requires minimum interference. All SMPS will have some noises.... as far as 12V or not think all automotive components will operate on or around 10.5V to upward of 15V.... especially blower motors as the OP 's intention to run... so which ever one you have at hand and convenient.....

just saying even if you decided to convert your old AT or ATX power supply to use... you will needed to get the little extra nick nacks odds and ends to make it work. that adds up especially if you use ATX it still requires a 5 Watt or more load resistor that is not cheap either. with AT power supply think you just needed the Banana Plug Post and heat shrink. Those are not cheap either especially if you don't have them laying around.
