AC, Well Almost

The floor will have to wait until next month, as I couldn't pass up this deal.

Our crack HVAC guy put in the wrong size compressor for one side of our house and so after he put in the correct unit we had this 2 ton left over. Since it was slightly used I suggested puting it in the garage.

Couldn't pass the up the deal. I got a new air handler, coil, installation minus electrical for $1100.00. It may not be the prettiest installation, but I'll take it. The electricion should be out this next week and then I can repair the drywall. Maybe I'll even straighten the drain eventhough I won't be able to see it. Can't wait.

A lot of people ask me "Why the heck did you put an A/C in the garage??". When their tools are rusting and they're sweating bullets from doing an oil change, they'll know why.

Do you already have heat in there?

I am planning on doing something similar My current home unit is about 9 yrs old average life for a heat pump is 15 yrs of regular uses. I figuare I will replace it next year and put it in my garage and put a new unit in the house. In the garage the unit should last for a good while with it not being used 24/7 I figuare a 3 ton unit will cool and heat it pretty good in a 30x40 if I get the ceiling and walls inclosed by then.

I am going to have a 3.5 Ton Trane Split System installed in my 1000 SF garage on Monday. Here in Arizona a garage is not comfortable without it.

I have a swamp cooler on wheels that is supposed to be able to cool 1400 SF, but when it hit 115 degree here, the best it could do was 100 degrees inside. The swamp cooler will be delegated to the dog kennel come Monday.

We just got done building the platform for the air handler this morning.

Some think I'm crazy, but the thought of being able to wax a full-size diesel truck in A/C'd comfort seems like a good idea to me!

Someone asked about heat and yes I already do have it. I had a 40k btu Reznor put in last year. The sad thing is I could have added plane old heat strips to the air handler for not too much more and then I wouldn't have needed the Reznor, but not everything works out as planned.

I am still waiting on the electrician though. He promises that he will be here on Wednesday. I hope.

Well I finally got it hooked up today. Ran it for a couple of hours and boy did it pull a lot moisture out. Then I washed my truck and after an hour or so there was a lot less dampness in the air than before I had a/c. I almost wish that I had something bigger than a two ton though.
