Anybody have one of those roll around ACs for the garage. They don't seem to be that much.

My last garage I just used a window unit. If you have a window big enough to support a window unit I would just do that. The roll around floor ones have to have a hose out the window anyway and most of them you have to dump a pan when it fills up. Plus they take up floor space. I'm not a fan of the floor ac units.

Now I'm 500 miles north of where I used to live and it never gets hot enough to worry about garage AC. I sure was nice in PA on 90-100 degree days. Worst it gets in Maine is normally low 80's.

My son bought one to use in his garage in Phoenix, you have to vent the air outside somehow - he cut a hole in the ceiling and vents his outside thru the roof. However, it's really only good to cool you, not the shop. Better than nothing I'd guess, but I put a window unit in my garage - it does the job beautifully.....

I thought climate controlled garages were for the rich, with their classic and restored uber-expensive cars.

I don't have a window in the garage so a window unit isn't an option. You could put a dryer vent in for a roll around unit. I was just curious if anyone had one and how well they worked. Probably one of those deals where if you get one big enough it cost a fortune.

My wife bought one for our bedroom.

It works more like a piss poor dehumidifier, and it leaks water so I have to keep it in a tray and empty the tray.

We've made do with it for 2 summers but next year a window unit will replace it.

Get a window unit and cut and frame an opening.

They're called "spot coolers" for a reason. They only cool a "spot". Better off with a window unit...

A small window unit is less money. I had one and returned it to Lowes. Thank goodness there was no problem with the return.

Air conditioners only dehumidify when air blows across the coils, so a smaller unit will dehumidify better (they run longer), but take longer to cool down from a huge heat load.

OK, seems like it would be a waste of money. Better to find out from here than to actually waste money on one.

My son's garage is made from block, so he didn't think he could install a window unit, and he didn't have enough money to buy a mini split so he went with this, since he's in Phoenix it probably works better than in other locations since there's so little humidity but it was still just marginal....like I said, better than nothing.

I live with an HOA... Window units not allowed in my neighborhood, and no window to begin with.

I'm near San Antonio, and it's frikkin hot... I spend my spare time working on Harleys, less than fun when it's above 100.

Good to read the negatives, I was about to go buy one of these and cut the holes in the outside wall and add dryer vent covers and screen.

why does everyone think you need a window for a window unit?
cut a hole in your wall and reinforce the framing
works great
18k btu unit cools my 750 sq ft garage (fully insulated) in Phoenix just fine
