I have a Snap on KR1000 and KR1100 that I just brought home to be my "home" box, drawers were getting quite stiff, I have the left bank out on the bottom chest to clean and lube the slides, (making huge difference so far but I am not done with em all yet) and notice all my detents are crumbling and falling apart as I pull the drawers out. I found Accuride online and sent an Email to their general "Contact US" address, hoping for a favorable response in getting new ones. (I did a search here and seen that some here had been successful in getting new ones from them vs the Snap on man) About how long does it take for them to send them out? I'd like to leave it apart if it isn't gonna be too long of a wait for them to get here.

The detents are still available from Snap-on. Do you want standard stiffness or extra stiff? I wouldn't recommend the extra stiff for the narrow drawers.

Standard Stiffness

Extra Stiff

Where did I get the part numbers you ask? The 1990 catalog.

They work on all the drawers except the bottom wide drawer.
(Says that in the catalog)

I had bought the detents from Snap-on for my box and it was about a week. The big bottom on the KR1000 does use a round/doughnut style roller detent.
I dont have the part number off hand unless it's at work.

If you have a lot of weight in a drawer the gray/extra stiff detents are better for those drawers I've found.

yeah I asked for the stiff ones for the bottom cab, and standard for the top chest.
Though it's gonna be my "box at home" it is pretty badly faded and somewhat scratched up, (not dinged or dented though) I'm thinking of painting it, though back then you could get a box from Snap on in any color as long as it was red, if I do paint it I am thinking of a complete color change. Maybe something close to their more current royal blue? Probably will use it as is though as I have to get the disaster area of a garage cleaned up, and soon... can't hardly move out there right now.

I wouldn't rely on email if you want to recieve them quickly. I called Accuride and spoke to someone on the phone who had the detents for my KR1000 put in the mail that same day...I received them three days later.

I sent a request to [email protected] and they sent them right out to me. There's no point in leaving the box apart, the detents go right in while the slides and drawers are in place.

Mine look to be at the back (far end inside the cabinet)

Your rear and intermediate detents are located such that you'll need the drawers out to replace them all. Be sure to replace both types of detents while you're in there or you'll have to pull the drawers a second time.

Perhaps the OP didn't see the links I posted. :dunno:

yeah I did and thanks.
I got a reply today from Jorge at Accuride asking for pics of the slides, I had given him the brand, model and year built of my box and there was no mention of that, just a request for some pix of a couple of my slides to be Emailed back to him... had some running to do after work today, so haven't been back at this post as soon as I would have liked.

think I struck out. I sent some pix to Jorge as requested, and he says that these slides were "custom made" for the tool box manufacturer and left me a link to their closest thing they have...he asked me to check with the manufacturer of the toolbox. (I DID tell him in my initial Email that this is for a Snap on chest, even provided the model numbers and prod. year)
I then sent him another response asking for just the detents, and have not yet heard back again.... I hope I am wrong, but I may have heard the last from Jorge on this...
I did finally see a Snap on man today for the 1st time in years, I have been working at my current location since last 12/1, (not new job, just a transfer for me) and he showed up today for the 1st time, my co worker has been telling me that "we have a snap on man" since I have been here and he has been non-existent til today. I asked him about what I need, he is checking into it. (was hoping to get Accuride to help me out as they have others on GJ for free as I have seen in searched posts)

ok another question, hope someone out there is still reading along...
I removed all the slides out of the KR1000 bottom except for the very bottom big drawer.
I was having decent luck flushing them out with brake clean but making a mess trying to lube with spray white lube, so I decided to drill out the 1 pop rivet per slide and pop them out so I could do a better job of cleaning them and inspecting them in my Safety Kleen tank; I am glad I did, I found 2 that definitely need replaced, as the lip on the outer rail of the slide on these 2 is all bent outta shape.
here lies my issue. I did not pay attention to or mark the locations within the box that I pulled them from, just removed them and made a pile. I just looked on Ebay and saw a few slides advertised for sale, none that I saw were Accuride, some had Snap on engraved into them, BUT they were listed as left only, right only, or some were sold as pairs. What is different between left and right sides?

From what Jorge has said in the Emails w have exchanged, it appears that if I want exact replacements I am going to have to go thru Snap on as these were "custom" slides, not a standard Accuride cataloged part.
There was a member here whose ad I saw that was trying to give away a whole KR1000 worth of slides. Does that sound familiar?
Oh yeah/ the biggest problem that I found making them stick? pieces of old busted detent and bumpers that I flushed out between the parts of the slides as I flushed them out in the solvent tank.

If you talk to your snap on dealer he might be able to help you out. My dealer called someone and had them send all 16 sets for my kr660b under warranty. Didn't cost me a cent. Made a customer for life that day haha

The left /right means just that. It has to do with the tabs that lock in to the box frame and the other side of the slide having the screw holes/drawer slots.

The slides from Snap-on are 68$ a set going by #8-05388ALRS. Not as bad price wise as I thought they would be. IIRC, all slides in a KR1000 are the same except the bottom wide drawer.

I haven't had a regular snap on guy in years, just met the one that has our territory last week for the 1st time, I transferred to a different work location, have been here since last 12/1 and this was the 1st time he actually showed up. at my former location, I was bringing broken stuff home to have a buddy take care of with the snap in guy at his work... our guy is supposed to come every other week, we will see.
I did ask him to get me detents, before Jorge at Accuride finally got back to me...

The direction the bayonets are pointing.

thanks. I'll head out to the garage and see which ones I have pulled from the pile as "bad".

that makes sense, I see the difference between left and right now, looking at my bad ones, 2 pairs would be what I need... if I gotta buy them, I will only replace the bent up pair and live with the one pair that is still slightly stiff, even at that after cleaning in solvent even that set is improved vs how they were before I started playing with them, just not quite as "free" as the rest of them became/
and strangely the bent up pair is "very" free sliding/

Just for your info, I've cleaned the gunk out of slides real well with GooGone and a toothbrush. No need to oil the slides afterwards because the GooGone leaves an oily residue on the bearings anyway. Drawers slide real nice.

yeah most did clean up well, seems like the PO sprayed something in there, something blackish gray, and dry like maybe spray graphite? It sure attracted a lot of **** that became a crust which aggravated the sticking slides, came right off in the solvent tank,
I didn't keep count, but there were less than 6 detents left on the slides, intact. I have not yet gotten to the top box, but none of them seem to slide as hard as some of the ones in the lower box did....

they don't seem to like answering the phone, I tried them 3 times throughout the past week, different days/different times of day.

still waiting, in the meantime I did get ahold of Snap on by way of an 800-number, and they sent me some brand new slides,
I didn't get greedy as I ain't the original owner of the box, just got the bottom drawer pair of slides and 3 sets of "the rest",
absolutely needed 2 sets for sure no matter what.. figured ordering 4 sets of slides, was pushing my luck far enough, the woman on the phone was so cool about it.
ordered them Monday and UPS was dropping them off as I got home from work Wednesday, while I still wait for my detents here on the following Saturday, I wound up having to put the box back together without the new detents because of the space that the disassembled box is taking up at the moment, maybe I should have ordered all new slides from S/O instead?
I have 3 or 4 "left side" tracks that still had good detents, plus the new tracks that I got came with them already installed, so I am gonna have to pull out about 1/2 the drawers in the bottom again when they finally get here...
there were more with (at least partial) bumpers left in them, but were quite brittle and busted easily, considering all the remnants of slides and bumpers that I flushed out of the tracks, I didn't want to leave any of the old ones in there, these old remnants were a lot to do with a lot of the "sticking" of the slides in the 1st place...
Going on other suggestions here on GJ, I did go to HF and bought some of that STA LUBE and smeared a little bit in each row of ball bearings....

They won't be Accuride, at least my replacements for my KR1000 weren't. My advice is to do what you can to keep the Accuride slides as long as they aren't damaged in some way. They are superior to what SO is sending you.

I had 2 sets of slides that absolutely had to go, I got a 3rd plus the one "different" one for the big bottom drawer, youre part right. the one that is different from all the rest is actually an Accuride, the other 3 weren't. I have that original bottom drawer set left and 1 set of original Accuride's left that I am gonna hang onto just in case.
I put the new S/O slides on the 2nd-and 3rd bottom drawers and the bottom drawer on the left bank (shorter width) and cleaned-out original slides on the rest.

I screwed up....

I finally got the quantity of detents, both the end ones and the intermediate ones, that I requested yesterday,//they came Fed Ex instead of regular mail. I'm sure it costed them more to ship that way.....
Where I screwed up, was that I did not know how they came, whether per slide or per drawer/ I told Jorge that I needed 22 of each, plus enough parts to rebuild one set of the heavier looking bottom wide drawer.
Being that so many were missing their original components, I did not know that all the slides took detents, for some unknown reason, I thought that just the left slides had them.... I also did not know if he would send me pairs or singles by that count.... this being the 1st time doing this job.
He sent me exactly what I asked for, 22 of each/ plus plenty for the bottom drawer. But, since, I have found out that I should have doubled that quantity, to have enough for my top (KR1100) and this bottom.
Being that once I get this box into its planned spot in my garage, I do not plan to move it very often at all, if ever.... having the new detents in the bottom, if anywhere, will get me by for now, at least it will now be less likely to have the drawers fall open on their own, and "face plant".

I also see what was meant by "the slides sent out by Snap on will not be the same as the original Accuride ones" as mentioned in this thread...
The oddball bottom drawer pair that Snap on sent to me actually are another set of Accuride, but the 3 pairs of "regular" slides that I got, aren't. I definitely can feel a difference in how the drawers with the new S/O slides roll, vs. how the cleaned up Accuride slides work...
