My favorite tool line is Blackhawk, but I seldom drop the big money on it anymore.

My "Mainstay" is Craftsman. (I do not want to hear any **** about it. The tools are indestructable for the average working slob. They are priced well. The warranty is a 30 second conversation 100 out of 100 times).

I only put American made tools in my tool chest.

I was at the Ace store and asked for a 24 inch pipe wrench, but made in the USA. He gave me an Ace tool. I thought they were all made in China. He said the "high line" is made in the USA and guaranteed just like Craftsman. Just bring the broken one in and leave with a new one. This looks like a great tool. I hope I live long enough and get strong enough to break it.

Who makes these Ace tools? I have never seen an Ace Tool factory. Is it Danahar???

What can you tell me about the high line Ace tools? What else do they make?

Unless you seen USA on the wrench, I believe you where misinformed. None of the ace tools are USA made even the "pro series". You are correct, they are Danahar made. However they are china/taiwan Danahar.

Most are OK tools. They share alot of the same tools that Northern tool sells. But none are USA made.

Either you where misinformed, or it was NOS.

My local ACE just recently replaced the ACE brand tools with Craftsman. They had some Craftsman before, but now they have quite a bit. Sets and individual wrenches, sockets and power tools.

I bought 2 sets of "Ace Pro" brand polished combo wrenches on sale last Christmas. They are nice tools and look like Danaher. Made in Taiwan.

I bought some Ace branded screwdriver bits that were made in the USA. I have seen some Ace tools that were made in USA, but not many.

Ace does sell U.S. made pipe wrenches under their own brand. I have a 10 inch model that I just bought a couple months ago and it is marked Ace Hardware and USA. The stores around here carry three different brands of pipe wrenches: cheap imports (I think their VPT brand), the U.S. made Ace brand, and Rigid. It is true that the vast majority of the Ace branded stuff is imported, but this is not the case with their pipe wrenches.

Thank you.

I would not post that something was made in the USA unless I saw the stamp in the steel. This tool in stamped made in the USA. I am not misinformed. The pipe wrenches with the paper collar and the China sticker are right next to it.

Does Danahar make this tool?

Ironically the dog bone wrenches I bought by Craftsman were made in Tiawan. Go figure.

Again- who makes the tool.

Ace puts their name on all sorts of stuff, made by all sorts of people.
One neat thing about the Ace branded tools/stuff though, is that it ALL carries a lifetime warranty. Just bring in the broken "thing", and ask for a replacement. If they put their name on it, it is covered. Top end polished wrenches, bottom of the line cheap stuff; doesn't matter.

I've seen the Ace branded made is USA pipe wrench too recently at my local Ace Hardware. So, it does exist.

I stopped by my local Ace today. USA stamped pipe wrenches hanging on the rack. For reference, the 18" was $29.95. I'll be going back to get a couple when I get a little extra scratch.

With that said, I already have the 18" and 14" pipe wrenches from Northern. They're Chinese but have replaceable jaws and seem to be of decent quality. I think I gave about $13 for the 18" one at Northern.

Lowes has the 18" Kobalt (Chinese) for $20. Looks and feels like absolute ****. The Northern ones seem much better. For less money.

IMO its the ultracheap china stuff or aluminum Rigid on sale, nothing in between is worth a look. Just my opinion. Lots of nice deals on Rigid "sets" on ebay, and they're new.

I bought a set of Taiwan Torx bits from there once in a pinch, they worked as good as any I have ever used. I have a dozen pipe wrenches or so, a couple imports someone gave me,,, but they all work, its a tool with a faily low technology level. If I was swinging them daily would be the aluminum Ridgids, for intermitant use no big deal. I got a couple baby 48's.

Who makes the tool?

As far as Rigid aluminum and China with nothing in between, how do you beat a tool made in the USA for 30 dollars that is indestructable and with a no hassel warranty. Just be alive and bring it in? If this tool is too heavy for you, put your purse down and carry it with both hands.

Thanks

Since no one seems to know for sure, I'll make a reasonable guess. When I bought mine I wanted to know who made it as well so I did some searching.
The only American made pipe wrench that I can find that looks anything like the Ace wrench is Matco.

http://www.matcotools.com/catalog/product/PWR10/10-IN--HD-PIPE-WRENCH/

Matco of course is a Danaher product so I think they are made by Danaher.

I could be wrong of course, just a guess.

EDIT: Here's a pic of the Ace brand for comparison

Easy, set of pipe wrenches $12, same indestructible, same no hassle warranty. I've used just one of the 3 in the set, maybe two or three times in 10 or so years, and I think two of those times wasn't for its intended purpose.

I bought an ACE ratchet and I was amazed at how much better the quality was compared to my Craftsman, I have no idea if its American made as I didn't inspect the packaging.
