Thanks OP. I added 6 to my collection. Left one of each on the shelf.
Now I'm thinking I should have bought all of them.

I bought two curved jaw 7" units today. I'm going to make one of those nifty pressed pin pullers out of an old pair like Jody did on welding tips and tricks

Yeah the sale tags in my local stores (marion and herrin illinois) have the sale til the 30th. Also, the ace brand utility knives were on sale for 90 cents. Bought a handful to stash in various places.

Went to my local Ace and they had about 6 of each on the shelf. At the register they came up full price. I showed them the $4.99 listing on their website but the manager said if it is not in the local flyer then they are not participating in the sale. So I ordered online with free shipping to the store. Still waiting on my ready for pick up email..

Got the straight and curved jaw versions this weekend. It's hard to say no at those prices. And the darn sale worked on me as I bought a pile of rattle can paint (Ace Premium Brand) for $1.99 each. It's decent paint and handy to have around for quick projects. If I can find a good storage solution at my place, I might be tempted to buy another fifteen or so to keep on hand.

Thanks for this! I picked up a couple pair today. My local ACE is participating and had plenty in stock. As well as the $5 Irwin clamps.

You guys are hell on my checkbook, I walked in for a couple vice-grips. Walked out with 5, a catfishing pole, gun case and a new rifle they are saving for me.

Walked into Ace for these, found them, saw the 10" tagged for $7.99 and decided I'll get those instead and grabbed a few. got to the cashier and they rang up $16 each. I explained the tag, she had a guy go check, he comes back with the tag and says it's the sale that ended 3/31. They wouldn't honor it. I walked out empty handed. I was too bummed out to not get the 10" vise grips that I didn't bother going back.

I printed out the ad and had Sears price match this deal. Ace is about 25 minutes away, but Sears is right down the street so it made sense. Got two pairs of the straight jaws. Used $5 in surprise points to bring it to grand total of $4.95 for two. Tried to get the Irwin Quick Clamps, but they didn't stock the same clamps as Ace.

So off I went to Lowes and had them price match the Irwin Quick Clamps for $5. Bought two.

Again, Hot Deals thread helps empty my wallet...

You could have got an extra 10% off. They match and take 10% off. They dont specify on the HD website what is considered "local" but I have an ACE about 3 miles away that should be local.

Are these better than the Kobalt pliers that are $10 for three at Lowes?

Not really. They're both pretty bad. If you want good ones that are cheaper than re-badged Grip-ons, look for the Blackhawk set #1105S on ebay. I've been pretty happy with them, and they're Taiwan rather than China.

Nope. Both are have really stupidly soft jaws. If you need them for welding or something where they might be getting destroyed/lost, not a bad choice.

The Blackhawk versions are very good for the money. Cost about the same as most vise grips but they have better (harder) jaws and a release lever that is down the proper way (same as the grip ons)

However, if you wait until zoro has a 30% off sale, you can get rebranded Grip Ons under the Proto name for about $12-14 dollars a piece, which makes them come out to the same amount as the Black Hawk and most vise grips. Not bad at all! I got 12 proto locking pliers the last time they had that sale, and I absolutely LOVE them. That said, Zoro doesn't carry the Proto version of the cool omnium locking pliers and none of the C clamps!

I wish some of the c-clamp ones would go for cheap. They're the ones that I would love to stock up on.

I picked up several from a previous sale but I did manage to pick up some of the bar clamps and adjustable wrenches they had on sale for $5 each.

I wish ACE would freshen this up a bit. These are the same rolling $5 items they have every few months.

I already have a bunch of the small $5 vise grips, I wish ACE would have some of the larger 10 inch vise grips. Or some of the specialty pieces like needle nose or C-clamp styles. Even if it was going to be a couple bucks more.

Mix it up please ACE. How about a $7 vise grip sale, with 10 inch, needle nose, and C-clamp styles. That would keep customers coming back for more.

They had the $7 10" grips a few months back. It seems they don't like running them at the same time as the $5 deal so watch for it once the $5 deal is over.
