Ace has $5 Vise Grips again.

7 inch straight jaw http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=15282546

7 inch curved jaw http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=11971748

They also show a Crescent Adjustable Wrench, and the picture says "USA" on it. So I'm not sure if it is like Sears that they haven't updated the picture, or it is a true USA old stock item. Since Crescent went to China about 3 years ago. Because the USA Crescents have "USA" stamped into the metal handle like that, and the China Crescents don't have anything stamped into the handle.

http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=24528546

If anybody gets the Crescent wrench, please let us know if it is Made in the USA.

The curved jaw ones ****! The lower jaw slides forward about 3/16" as you clamp down on something, either moving your work piece or scraping the **** out of it as the jaw grinds across it. Do not waste your money. You will hate them. There is absolutely no benefit to that stupid design that I can see. There may be a reason for it, but I haven't discovered it yet.

Was the Crescent wrench USA like in the picture? Or is it China and they didn't update the picture on the website.

Very unlikely it will be USA made. I glanced at them but forgot to check where it was made but it felt like a decent overseas-made wrench(based on the shake test), like the Vise Grips on sale...The thing is, I'm personally of the opinion that crescent wrenches are one of the few tools that you should NEVER skimp on. Cheaper crescent wrenches rarely hold their size and are just a hassle.

My Ace only had three Quick-Grip clamps in stock, so you guys may want to head to yours quickly if you plan on buying some.

The real deal are the 4.99 quick grip bar clamps. I picked up four for 20 bucks. I'll see if they hold a candle to my USA versions. By the way, if you ever have the chance to grab the USA versions, do it. They're worth it.

Yeah, that shows it pretty well. The worst part is that the bottom jaw only slides forward when there's pressure on them, which pretty much guarantees that your work piece will get scratched up. The bottom jaw will probably wear out prematurely, too.

I noticed this when I bought them and thought it was pretty weird. I figured for the price it was still worth it as a backup/occasional use tool.

FWIW I had a set of the China ones from sears but had to take them back after every use because the jaw serrations folded and flattened with just one use. After 3 times I just gave up on them entirely. It was in no way worth the hassle to keep exchanging them.

finally picked mine up today. the good news - a good local hardware store OPENED in our area. it's an ACE franchise, but this is their 6th one in the area, and all seem to be doing well. my 1st time there, and they seem to understand customer service. they carry craftsman as well. i'll be happy to return. sears could take notice.

the bad news. the channelock was china. the folks at the shop were surprised channelock wasn't USA, but understood when i wanted to return it.

i played w/ them today. the lower jaw slides only when the jaws are fully locked, which doesn't really happen in practice. for $5 welding clamps, these are a pretty good deal.
