I doubt you need to provide proof, because many grabbed those screwdriver sets for $2.99 back during the Fourth of July sale.

Iv bought this set in the passed. The Phillips don't last long. Good home set at the most but will still eat up the trips. My was putting my sisters fruntrue together and the Phillips was starting to round over. Brand new screwdriver.

I can remember Sears themselves running a sale like this years ago. I bought three tool bags and these screwdrivers (I have the flat, Torx and Phillips) filled each bag to go into the car. They've come in handy countless times for a quick repair over a friends house, etc.

Thanks OP. I picked up a set for a stocking stuffer. I try to keep an eye out for deals like this for future use as presents.

Yeah they are disappointingly soft, the phillips drivers cam out and the flat blades twist.

I found an interesting thing the other day. You cannot take Craftsman tools you purchased at Sears to Ace for exchange. Nor can you take Craftsman tools you purchased at Ace back to Sears for exchange. Apparently they have different part numbers. I found this out trying to return broken screwdrivers.

The only reason I can see them having different part numbers is if Ace still has old USA stock and if the part number changed with the COO.

Interesting first post.

How did you keep track of what you bought, where you bought, and where you tried to return them? Must have been a really frustrating day, running all over town getting turned down on tool exchanges.;)

Well, I just checked on that 5 pack of screwdrivers on sale at ACE. Same numbers on the packaging at both Ace and Sears. Same numbers on the screwdrivers. And I know other things have the same numbers as well including others screwdrivers I've bought at Ace in the past. I think someone is telling you a line of BS.

When did you buy your screwdrivers?

I compared some of the screwdriver numbers from the $2.99 sets I got from Ace, and they match up with the numbers listed in the descriptions on Sears.com:

Craftsman 5 Pc. Slotted Screwdriver Set
Craftsman 5 pc. Phillips Screwdriver Set

Signage on the racks at my local Ace say the Craftsman hand tools they sell are NOT (emphasis theirs) covered by the Sears/Craftsman lifetime warranty.

I'm guessing they mean that ACE will not honor the warranty. They probably don't want to deal with all the people bringing in stuff to swap out. And on the screwdrivers I just bought at ACE it does specifically state "Lifetime Warranty" on the packaging. At worst I can just bring them to a sears to warranty out anyway.

Normally I would say ACE is a piece for not doing so (especially since I have had a denial there before as well), but I think I've seen the CM warranty on he back of a package specifically call out "return to Sears" so maybe they are covered on this. Still crappy though.

I thought it says Sears or other Craftsman outlet, but I'd have to look at a newer set to be sure. Either way, plenty of places to return them if need be (at least for now).

I had never bought any of my Craftsman tools anywhere except Sears. Took a couple back to Ace because there is a store right around the corner from me. They would not exchange due to part number even though they clearly had the same size driver on shelf. Didn't think about if they were made in USA or not.

Just out of curiosity I asked Ace specifically about the Craftsman warranty. Here is the response. (I edited out the rep's name)

"Thank you for contacting Customer Support at acehardware.com.

We apologize for the confusion regarding Craftsman tools. We have a 30 day return policy on our purchases and a lifetime warranty on our brand items. We do not honor the Craftsman warranty, these items need to referred to the manufacturer as with any other products after the 30 day return period.

If you have any more questions or comments, please do not hesitate to reply to this email or call our Customer Service Department toll-free at 1-866-290-5334 and thank you again for contacting Customer Service at acehardware.com.

Sincerely,

Customer Service Representative

Customer Support at acehardware.com"

So no the official Ace policy is to not honor the Craftsman warranty. It has to go through Sears.
