I was in Ace Hardware this weekend and they some Craftsman on clearance. There was also a sign that said to take and additional 50% off the clearance pricing. The tool set was made in Taiwan but the rest was a mix of China and Taiwan. I have never seen any V-series stuff at this store but maybe you'll get lucky at yours. YMMV.

Each Ace store can choose which brands it carries. Not all carry craftsman. This particular store ordered to much of it or is switching to another brand.

There are two Ace hardware stores near me.

One is fully stocked with Dewalt and Craftsman.

The other has Milwaukee.

A third, non branded store carries both Dewalt and Milwaukee, but no Craftsman.

Hardware stores are locally owned, and get their stock through the wholesaler they’re aligned with.

Check Napa online. Seems like some of the descriptions are incorrect. Check part numbers. Some are sets that Lowe’s cleared out. Very low prices for quality wrenches. The long panel kits are almost half off.

The part number is for the 11 piece sets. They still have the same wrenches in the old packaging that Lowe’s cleared out.

Does this mean "The Final End" of Craftsman tools? :dunno:

I'm not sure if that was sarcastic, but I doubt it. For the average DIY homeowner, these tools still work just fine.

Ace Hardware stores, like many others, are independently owned. What works at one store might not work at another. For instance, my local Ace Hardware had a bunch of Milwaukee M18 Fuel items on massive sale because they needed to make room for new inventory.

Lowe's does something similar. They often toss items into the clearance section that have been sitting on the shelves for ages or are poor sellers.

The girl at Napa says they are dropping Craftsman. Have been on clearance for a while. The local Ace was regular price for same sets.

Not sarcastic at all because I don’t know how long they can keep clearing out the Craftsman tool line and trying different ways to market the Craftsman tool line at different retailers only to see the tools being on "clearance" on a regular basis…….. When I see this happening IMHO it sadly signals the "end" of the Craftsman line of tools.
I still have my original Craftsman tool set (60 years old) along with a lot of Craftsman tools that were purchased from the 1960’s to the 1980’s.……….. I agree that the Craftsman tool line is "better than good" for the average homeowner and I did purchase the 6 point combo wrench sets back in November and I am very happy with the quality. It was a sad day for me to see a "powerhouse" retail chain like Sears go downhill with poor quality and eventually go away.
When I was young boy I had wet dreams about having a complete Craftsman tool set (like the pictures in the Sears catalog) and now I have way too many tools and the dreams have now turned into nightmares.:LOL:

BTW! I am NOT a fan of Horror Freight and will avoid walking into the store.……. F@K HF! :thefinger

With Lowe's still carrying Craftsman, and with a lot more selection than most Ace displays I've seen, I'd say no. If anything, the number of retailers carrying the Craftsman line was oversupplied.

Imagine if Husky Tools, in addition to being well-stocked at every Home Depot, were also carried at some other national hardware store chain - like True Value.

Sears never had these kind of retail location numbers, even in their bloated growth periods of the 1960s and 1970s - unless you count their catalog storefronts as well. But then in a way, Sears Catalog stores back then were the Amazon of today - and you can now buy Craftsman through Amazon, of course, just as you could back in the day with Sears catalog.

Stopped in the Ace in Marana, Az this afternoon, and sure enough, there were four bins ( not full) with assorted tools, much of it Craftsman, but also other brands, like Gearwrench, Crescent, Ace and more, all at 40% off.

I wouldn’t read anything into that, though. Looks like the store rearranged and restocked the displays with different SKUs. The items on clearance were simply discontinued sku numbers that no longer have a home.

I didn’t see anything unusual that would support the conspiracy theories.

Ordered this morning and notified by noon they were transferred to the local store already. Got the correct part number for the advertised price.

I have this in SAE and metric, love them, but pretty tight. On their app I see that I can get each set for $68. Resisting a second set.

Edit: searching on the part numbers suggests the sets below are 7-piece sets, not the 11-piece sets Napa is advertising. Proceed with caution:

Previous posts (above) from boxy30 and jlrut steered me to the Napa Auto Parts website...

Craftsman 11 Piece 12-point Combination Wrench Set Metric Polished Chrome $30.97
Part #: CTM CMMT12063

Craftsman 11 Piece 12-point Combination Wrench Set SAE Polished Chrome $30.97
Part #: CTM CMMT12062

These are different part numbers than those listed earlier in the thread, but they appear to be the same long pattern Gunmetal chrome 12-point wrenches.

Combining a metric set and an SAE set will meet the $35 free shipping level, plus Napa has coupons for % off or $ off for email signup, text signup, etc.

Thanks OP!

I don't really need them, but I ordered some anyway!

Two tips:
There was also a similar set of raised panel chrome SAE for $14.**, I didn't see the equivalent in Metric

If I selected ship to store, the price was reduced to $21.68.

Also, the listing says "Polished Chrome" in a couple of places, but"Gun Metal chrome" in another, so it's going to be interesting to see what shows up.

Yup.

Since each Ace Hardware store is independently owned, their policies and procedures for handling remodels can vary widely IMO.

One of the Ace stores near my house recently did a remodel, and they went through every SKU or item that had been sitting on the shelf for a while and marked it with a colored tag, offering about 40% off on those items.

They had some really high-quality items albeit slow movers, but still good products getting major discounts, including Milwaukee and DeWalt power tools. I think I picked up a set of Craftsman nut-drivers (made in the USA) that were collecting dust. It’s similar to what Lowe's does; I've found decent wire and cable in their clearance section just because it’s been sitting on the shelf for years.

If you ordered CMMT12062/CMMT12063 I would be interested to see what shows up as well.

I also ordered CMMT12063 and got the 7-pc gunmetal metric set. So NAPA will fulfill the orders based on the part numbers, not the descriptions.

Interesting that NAPA actually has two slightly different pages and slightly different prices.

First link has the right description (7 piece), second link does not

I ordered both of the 12063 and 12062 (metric). If they deliver the 7 pieces I will return them

When I saw something like this at Zoro, they told me it was from different suppliers. I take that to mean that one of the suppliers would probably drop ship to me and the other was probably coming from them...

I see $21.47
Different areas have different pricing, I assume because of various in store stock and some other details I dont know

On batteries there is a $50 per battery difference between 2 stores that are 35 miles apart

Would have preferred the 11 piece set, even if it was $10 or so more. I will either return them or give them to a friend.
Thanks. These don't look like the extra long ones that are in the 11 piece set or are they?

As expected mine also arrived with 7 piece sets shown
Will return them, not much use for me compared with 11 piece
