ACE Hardware "drawer" aisle

I just have always got a warm feeling walking down the small parts drawers at our local ACE stores. Recently a family closed one of their stores and combined it with a second store. Luckily, I asked to purchase the left over draw isle which is now in my storage area waiting for my new garage someday.

I bought the whole section of plastic slide drawers and metal frames that support them. Most are empty but some have the inventory still in them. WOW !! Dream come true!!!!!!

Re: ACE Hardware "drawer" isle

I hear you... I love walking down hardware drawer aisles. Even if I don't need anything. When I have the extra time to kill, I'll just start looking at all the contents just to familiarize myself with what's availble for future projects.

I got a bunch of the plastic bins from an ace that was moving and putting in all new, they sold them and their contents all out for 5.00 each and if you bought enough to fill the metal rack, they gave you the rack also.

Congrats on the score!
I don't think there's a man alive that doesn't love the hardware aisle at a small-town hardware store!
Lots of metrosexual-types that couldn't care less, but I don't consider them "men."

Did you ask to buy their paint-shaker? I don't know why, but I'd love my own paint-shaker. It just seems like it'd do such a better job shaking my spray cans than I can do.
Though using a paint-shaker for spray cans is probably a tad overkill.

During the couple of months I worked in a paint store one summer, we used to shake a whole case of spray cans at one time....just put them in the 1-gallon paint shaker (as many as you could fit) and turn it on. It was noisy, but effective.

I am Friends witht the Assistant Manager at the ACE Hardware here. I buy so much one piece at a time metric and standard and chrome stuff, that when I walk in the front door, they just hand me the key to the locked up chrome stuff! They have just about everything I have needed, except a couple fast:ners for My 71 Triumph 650.

Couple of new guys in this thread. Welcome. You never know what will pull someone in. ;)

I found a fittings bin awhile back, but I can't imagine having a whole wall or aisle.

Let alone an isle!

Our local Ace store here in Salem has expanded their nuts and bolts and now has one of the largest stocks of nut, bolts and odd stuff on the West coast. They have all kinds odd helm joints, rods & ends like for carbs, Nuts/bolts/washers/bushings in stainless, chrome, black chrome, internal hex/allen heads, machined chrome nut/bolt head caps, all kinds of custom trim stuff for that unique rod or Harley . Spent over an hour just going over what they had for any future project. The dept manager was telling me about customers driving as far away as Seattle ( 260 Miles) for their goods.

I Love our ACE Store, great service and better prices than Lowe's/HD.

Thanks! I'll check them out. I buy a lot of hardware from Cascade Nut and Bolt, but it is box lot stuff.

There's an ACE about 1/2 mile from the house. I don't bother keeping nuts and bolts on hand usually because I can just go there with my list and get everything needed all at once. It's very convenient. :) Keeps me going in there as a regular customer.

Nice! I've got several of the cabinets that hold 6 bins:

They are great for organizing phone cords, wallplates, and one dedicated to my lock collection.
I've also got one 5 drawer stack of plastic boxes similar to those Hillman ones.

I have almost the exact same setup as what you show in your picture, with the exception of the industrial shelving. I purchased the bins and such at a surplus store. I love it.

I was in waterville Wa. this week and their only hardware store is closing and they had the hillman boxes for sale, This is their first week of closing so I figure that things will get cheeper as time goes on, But if some one is in Central to northern Washington and wants some boxes they have a bunch for sale. No I am not with them, I travel for a living and I always look for cool stuff for my garage...Good luck Rich.

My parents retired and sold the family hardware store in 1981. I still have lots of bulk boxes of nuts, bolts and washers from that store. Two things I wish I had held on to when the store closed: the antique paint shaker and the antique key machine. Oh, and the old Buck Knives sign.

Great score on the shelving containers. Several years back a friend of mine offered me a deal to get half of all the nuts and bolts and fasteners like go in your beens. A local True Value went with the box system as you have. But the old stock was not to be used in there new beens. So Bob and I bought over 1800 lbs of nuts and bolts, screws for $125. witch I got half of.

At least ten years a friend made a similar deal. $5 a box. He has a lot of stuff left. Mostly odd ball stuff. But you never know when you will need an odd ball.

Our local farm store is an ACE retail outlet. Lots of chrome and stainless along with grade 5 and 8 nuts, washers, and bolts sold by the pound. Great place to hang out.

I love my local ACE. The hardware section is definitely my most visited and gives me a hard on before even reaching the isle.

The girl at the counter is easy on the eyes too. That may be part of it.

I picked up 21 of the 5 drawer units just like yours(came from ace) a few days ago. $11 ea for the 5 drawer and $6 ea for the 3 drawer (i did not buy any 3 drawer just gave you that for ref.). Also got 7 of the big tray units that hold 6 tray's brand new $15 ea. I bought a lot so the guy gave me extra stuff, like... I think i got about 20 extra parts drawers that fit the 5 drawer unit. And a bunch of other stuff, some of the drawer even had hardware in them. He is on craigslist in Kansas City under "general".

The Jandorf and Servalite plastic trays are the best IMO. They fit nicely into the drawers but are strong enough to be carried around. Most have good latches like Plano boxes.

The Ace store up in Traverse City Mi has a basement. It was like walking into heaven. It was where they had all the woodworking tools. Probably the best outfitted wood tool shop I have been to. Funny thing is I went to that store probably a dozen times before I knew there was a basement.
