Hello GJ:

Moderators: Let me know if this is the right place for this topic.

I have a 2000 sq ft concrete patio / sport court that was poured last year. It's used for bike riding, playing ball, water play, anything you can imagine. Only problem is, the color is natural concrete - a light grey - and produces a lot of glare on sunny days.

What are your experiences with acid staining concrete? Does the color last? Once it dries, is the acid and chemicals used for the staining safe for kids? Obviously they won't eat it, but they'll bounce balls or fall on it and you know where their hands will go next.

I appreciate any knowledge you can share! Thank you:beer:

When you acid stain you need to neutralize and rinse afterwards. Once you do that you are good to go. It doesn't wear away unless the concrete wears away since it is a permanent stain. If you don't put a topical sealer down on top it will have a natural dull look to it.

Acid station reacts with the minerals within your concrete. The colors will vary in intensity. I did four different colors in my shop. The green only shows in certain sections or when the light hits at the right angle on it. The outside approach was poured a few weeks later and shows the green really well. I will never have gray concrete again. It’s too easy to do and is fairly cheap.
