Hi All,
I'm wondering if anyone in Canada has found the trick to ordering from these folks. I filled out an 'application' over a week ago and then sent them a follow up through their website. I know they geared to selling to other businesses, although I even filled out my company info that I use for side work but no dice.

Only think I haven't been able to do is stop in, in person. A lot of work so far just to be able to use my credit card on a website to buy a few sets of vise jaws. If I can't manage to buy from these guys are there any online places that sell the Irwin / Record Jaws?

call them. i will preface this with the fact that i have never done business with them. from my experiences though, you will get things sorted out eventually but most of the time a phone call or two is needed to get the fires lit under the admin's asses to process your requests.

I dislike Grainger for some of their business practices. My wife used to run a small manufacturing business, and when we tried to set up an account at Grainger(not for credit, mind you, simply to have the pleasure of buying from them), they insisted that we had to come in to their office in person to set up the account. They were about 50 miles away, so we never did go in.

Like others above have said I have dropped in and dealt with them directly and they have been great. I've never tried to deal with them online though.

Acklands is good for one thing, that is ripping the consumers off. They are only decent to deal with if you are an industrial based business and ordering in large quantitites in my opinion.

If they are like the ones in the States, then nobody goes to Grainger because they are cheap, but for the simple fact that they usually have it when you need it now.

I had the same experience trying to setup my account online. Thank fully there is a store in my way to work. As others have mentioned, they are often expensive. The strange thing about their prices is they are high on the common items that you can get else where, but have resonable prices on the odd-ball/difficult to find stuff. I don't go there often, but do on occasion. Oh, and I don't have a business, I'm just a serious doityourselfer that made up a company name.

Sound like overall I shouldn't feel like I'm missing out much :) I'll have to try going in for the Record jaws, I haven't been able to track down anywhere else that carries them.

^^^ That's where I got jaw sets my Record vices. I had to order them and they came in the next day. They ranged in price from about $21 for a No. 4 vice to $43 for a No. 8 vice (screws included). They also have Record soft jaw sets - $31 for a No. 6.

Yep, that's where I got the jaws and soft jaws for my 6" record and if you speak to the right person, they can help you out with some older Wilton parts. They couldn't, however source the swivel base I was looking for. But yes, as others have said, their pricing is all over the place. For the oddball stuff, they're pretty reasonable but for the every day stuff, I've seen double the cost of retail in other stores.

Cooper Tools is a mom & pop store in Regina, SK. They carry them. Likely with shipping your best bet would be to get them from Acklands in Cow Town though.

Also check to see if you have a Century Vallen store in Calgary, they carry them too.

I was able to get my account approved over the weekend. Acklands Grainger actually saw my post and sent me a PM here to get me setup which is nice, have my Record jaws ordered up now which is good.

They definitely don't compete with the HD market but they do seem to have a lot of specialty stuff you won't find anywhere else so I'm sure I'll be using them again for that.
