Acoustical tin

Just completed my 40x68x14 stick built shop, with 29 gauge tin on the outside. The guys who are helping me do it recommended on the inside, when I put up the tin on the inside (ceiling and walls) that I use acoustic tin for the top 3 ft. of the walls with black plastic underneath it. They said the acoustic tin has the same rib pattern as the regular tin and color, but it just has small holes in it to help with the echo effect. I've never seen this nor heard of it. Anyone have any experience with acoustic tin panels?

I remember years ago seeing perferated 12" ceiling tiles somewhere that was installed to keep the sounds from bouncing around. It was a suspended ceiling. I would think it woud work for you. There is a 50's style diner near me that was built in the last 20 years that had smooth ceilings. They hang large cloths in various places to help keep the noise at bay.

We had also been to a restaurant in Galesburg, IL that was converted from some kind of meat packing plant. The had large cylindrical type pillows stuck in nooks and cranies on the ceiling to help eliminate the echo effect.
