Not to mention FOD, foreign object damage, if you are working on something that "must" remain clean.

Ah, but that's why you should have bought the industrial finish Snap-On tools. Snap-On can't warranty your poor purchase decision! :D

Some of you guys really have bad luck on returns. I have only used Sears so far but I have been treated right. Multiple slipping rachets have all been replaced with no problem. I ran across an old severely rusted, bent screwdriver at my friends house while I was helping him clean his garage. I told him to get it replaced and chuckled. He said no, throw it away or I could take it in. I did take it in and although the girl looked at me a little funny, she replaced it no questions asked. Great experiences so far with my Sears. I also have alot of friends that work there so I don't anticipate any problems.

I recently took back a bunch of rounded Craftsman pro screwdrivers and a breaker bar with a spread u-joint to my local Sears essentials where they have always been very good about warranty exchanges. The dimwit clerk insisted that I would have to have the screwdrivers mailed to me since the part numbers did not match the new style ones with the red and black handles. A conversation with a manager cleared everything up and the clerk pulled the screwdrivers from the rack. He then informed me that they no longer do the exchange transaction in the tool department and I was then sent to the service desk. My initial thought was that this was the beginning of a tougher warranty policy until the 20 year old little girl behind the counter cheerfully did the exchange. The next week I exchanged my broken, out of warranty 3/8" clicker torque wrench at the service desk- no problem. The girl would not have known a torque wrench from a pork chop. I bet they would have exchanged a non Craftsman one if I had tried.

Tried returning a Craftsman 21 mm deep impact socket - spins off center for some reason; went to 2 Sears and none in stock, went to 3 Orchard Supply Hardware store and none in stock. So, now I'm back at home with a defective impact socket ...

Sears sales person advised me to check back every week ... :(

Yes they are supposed to do that if the item is not in stock. If you do not want to wait they can also give you a comparably priced tool instead if you wish. The trick in some stores is finding someone that knows this and knows how to accomplish it for you.

I never give up the tool until I get the replacement in hand. I did that once, and when the replacement came, it was not the same item, and the item that they shipped was worth about 1/4 of the tool that I had dropped off. Since I didn't have the tool any longer, they wouldn't do anything to correct the mistake. I have a Crapsman click torque wrench that has the original warranty card and receipt with it, that has a broken head. They won't replace it with a similar item, but want to replace it with a beam torque wrench. The difference is that the click type now only carry a 1 year warranty unlike when I purchased it, and the beam wrench is a lifetime tool. I have had both good and bad experiences with Sears, but the bad far outweigh the good 2 to 1. Now, I just rather pay the extra and buy Snap-On.

Ridgid 24 V Li-Ion battery was replaced without question. Battery has a lifetime warrantee & crapped out @ 8 months. Sent it to a service center nearby & I got a new one in about 2 weeks.

Now that's good to know... as I have teh same Ridgid setup. I always wondered how much of a PITA it would be to get them to make good on the warranty.

Drove down to the San Mateo Sears store and finally got my 21 mm deep impact socket replaced; kid there was very courteous and had to ask one of the older guys if the socket had a lifetime warranty ... other than that, it was pretty painless ...

On the Snap-on truck yesterday

They replaced a broken tap, screwdriver bits, put a new plastic handle on my little torque-o-meter wrench. Had 2 bad jaws on a 10 ton puller ( he said, lets just replace all 3 of them) And a strange one I have 2 sets of sae long deep offset wrenches. I have had them for about 20+ years. The other day I was using one on a 13/16" bolt on the old tractor, and noticed that end the the wrench was made all strange ( the first time I had used that end of that wrench! ) The offset was bent so when you used it the wrench handle sloped down and would touch a flat surface under the bolt head! He replaced that one too... no questions asked!

Hell of a deal so I'm down for 2 weeks to get a battery??? No thanks....

Three weeks and waiting with Mac tools. I called customer service and they said they would ship out a rebuild kit for my 1/4" ratchet. We shall see if I have to call again. I would be more upset if I actually bout the item from them, instead of e-bay. I don't care if I have to buy the stupid rebuild kit, I just want my ratchet back in working order.

Nice to know that Mac will send a rebuild kit. Snap-On won't.

They told me I would have to track down the local Snap-On dealer to get a warranty. I don't even know the guy, and I'm not going to hop on his truck and ask for a warranty. It doesn't seem right.

I offered to send the ratchet to Snap-On, but they wouldn't even consider it.

I needed a retaining ring for an SK ratchet. I called up SK customer service and they sent me a bunch of ratchet rebuild and repair kits for free (postage their dime as well). I have yet to actually break the guts of an SK ratchet.

nothing wrong with you getting on a strange snappy truck , also , if you live in a area that is not servised buy the same snappy dealer that you do at work, you need to hunt him down anyway, he will have a fairly standard route /time pattern, find a stop nearist your house (just call him and ask, get his number through your local yellow pages or the snap-on dealer directory and ask about his rout so that that you can visit if need be, hop on like you own it and say " howdy im wilbilt, can you help me out here?" tell him how you come to own or be a snap-on guy and you need to change a few broken tools out....he'll turns them in or certfies the broken part ,to corp and the corp, reimburses him and maybe he has a new customer in you.... AND besides that ,now you know what /who and where you might find him and maybe get his card for the time that you may REALY need him and ****! there he'll be for you(some times ,maybe)... i mean the worst he can do is pull a pistol and tell to get the **** off his truck .

Different dealer and area than the one I dealt with years ago. I may have been on his truck a time or two 8-9 years ago if it's still the same guy, but I have never bought anything from him. My days of buying Snap-On are long over.

I've been on the truck in the old days when odd guys would jump on with a handful of warranties and it would piss the dealer off. He was a jerk anyway, but...I could see his point.
