I have an old Diamond vise that has been modified with a different handle. I'm wondering if it is worth keeping or if I should just eBay it.

Funny, I just bought one. Came on here just now to post pics of it in a thread I started.

My personal opinion, and your mileage may vary, but it's all based on sentimentality. I don't consider these vises to be useful. I like them because they are interesting conversation pieces. They speak of a bygone era. They are the evolutionary great great grandfather of many vises made today. So I'm gonna fix mine up, paint it black, highlight the letters in white for easy reading, then put it on a display shelf on the far left side with ever newer vises spreading out to the right.

So... The vise isn't valuable for anything other than what it does for your soul. If it doesn't do much for yours then put it on CL and I'll bet some fool like me will bite. Make sure to post the patent description and drawings with it. That'll help.

I was concerned because it looks like the handle is different than yours'. I like the look of the vise but I am out of space....

If it's just a space issue then you need to reevaluate how you see your space and the role of the vise within it. I'm sure you have plenty of space.

A few suggestions...

It complements the dining room table and provides a handy place to keep your favorite candle.

Works well as a second pair of hands in the kitchen as it's fire proof.

Personally, I prefer the aire of manliness it brings to a guest bathroom. Don't want anybody stealing the last roll of TP? You know where to put it.

Hope this helps. I'm sure your wife won't mind.

Eta: or you could just hide it under your wife's pillow.
