Adapt polisher to die grinder?

I've got a HF polisher -- this model. It works great for its purpose and I've used it to buff and polish boats, jet skis and exhaust parts. But -- I want to be able to use it more like a die grinder and use cut-off disks, buffing wheels and grinding wheels. It's got a 5/8" shaft just like a die-grinder but I can't for the life of me find an arbor adapter that would allow me to attach a regular 1/2" wheel or disk?

The die grinders I was just looking at at Home Depot seem to have the same size shaft but an additional two pieces that clamp together to hold the disk/wheel. Does anyone know if I can buy just that threaded clamp? If so -- where and why wouldn't that accomplish what I need to do?

You will never be able to polish with it again, all that cut off and ground out **** will fall onto the polished surface forever more.

FACT, been there.:scared:

I guess that makes sense. The HF unit works great with thread-on and hook and loop attachments, but my local Home Depot doesn't carry any of these in buffing or polishing wheels. Only the mandrel/clamp-style wheels. I just keep running into situations where I wish I could use those and it seems like it SHOULD be an easy adapter.
