Adapting a 4" box to Single Gang

I currently have 220v running to a 4" box metallic box nailed to the stud. The 4" box has a two gang 5/8" mudring on top. On top of the mudring is 5/8 sheetrock finished so that the mudring is flush with the sheetrock.

I would like to install a 30A twist lock outlet that fits a single gang spacing. The twist lock outlet requires a cover plate with a 1.6" hole. The easiest solution would be to use a cover that has a 1.6" hole on one side and a blank on the other, but I haven't been able to find one. I could also replace the 2G mudring with a 1G mudring, but I'd like to avoid having to break and patch drywall.

Suggestions and thoughts appreciated.

I went through this exercise with the last kitchen I had a contractor work on. I wanted a L14-30 on my kitchen island for a few commercial appliance some friends would bring over. (think counter top deep fryer, or ice cream machine)

The contractors ran 6GA and a double gang box... The L14-30 wanted solid conductors, and 8GA to play nicely. But the hardest part was trying to source a double gang single 1.6" hole plate / adapter.

I found one, but the cost was outrageous. I settled on a 14-30R.

Could you just get a blank and have an electrician with a hydraulic knock-out punch a hole in it?

I have used before I think. You sure the receptacle is 1.6 not 1.4?

Cut the sheet rock around the plaster ring and replace it with a single gang,then just fix the drywall.

The receptacle I have is a Hubbell L6-30R.

At this point I think I might consider a different receptacle. I can't bring myself to spend $20 on a coverplate

I am trying not to disturb the drywall. Hoping someone might have run into this and had a simple solution.

Call me lazy, but I want to avoid patching, sanding, priming, and painting if at all possible. Plus if I needed to switch back to a dryer plug, then I would have to do it all over again. Hoping to find a solution that will leave my options open without messing with the wall.

If you don't want to patch and paint then there is the custom plate route, P&S used to do custom plates through their Sierra Electric subsidiary, the Sierra catalog listed a huge number of options, but Sierra is gone & have no idea if they still do custom.

the two gang Hubbell plate you linked is probably the closest to solving my problem. the one issue with this plate for me is that I have a 2 gang mudplate already installed. so my receptacle is offset rather than centered.

I'd get a Raco 812C which has the 30A diameter of 1-19/32" ~1.6" dia already punched in it. Should be available at HD. This is a dished, exposed-work coverplate where the receptacle fastens to the coverplate. I can't picture whether this will work with the depth of the box but if it will its just a part to buy.

Edit: I just read about the offset, one idea is to go up to the 4-11/16" gang box and holesaw as suggested a 1-5/8" hole as carefully as possible. Chassis punch or annular cutters will do a smoother job.
