I’m not a heavy air hammer user but have been wanting to convert to quick connect for a while.

Anyone have experience and feedback on how to pick a decent QC that will fit? My hammer is a Husky H4610.

Lots out there, just make sure you get the right shank size (I believe it's a .401 for your ait hammer).

Edit: Others have noted you didn't specify whether you were referring to a quick connect air fitting, or a quick change tool holder, but I went out on a limb and assumed you meant the latter.

I assume it has a spring retainer on the end? that unthreads and you can thread one of the push-release type you showed a photo of. I'm sure they are standard sizes, but there's probably a few different standard diameters (probably at least 2, one for each standard shank size?). you'd have to measure yours and see what measurements are available.

From my experience, when they thread on, they are usually a pretty tight fit, and then the set screws seal the deal.

Sounds simple enough. I'll try to spin off the spring retainer and see what I find.

What tools do you use in yours, not all tools work with the quick change chucks. Rivet sets are the ones I had the most issues with(too short) a couple of other bits were too short also like hammer peen bits. like the 2 shorter ones here.

The CP chucks are decent.

Thanks for the education! I have a few and will check them. They probably all came in a set with the hammer.

The difficulty with selecting a quick connect for the bits is that there are different thread/spring pitches; it's not universal even for a .401 shank. It was very difficult for me to find the correct one for the SO PH3050 without buying it from SO. So pay attention to any specs. And if you can, buy it on Amazon so you can return it if it doesn't fit.

There is an IR for $58 that looks pretty nice. Not too much more than just the quick connect and no worries with fitment.

Snap on is the odd man out here the vast majority of them use the same retainer.

Agree, but IIRC there are at least three different .401 ones. At least when I searched 15 years ago.

Obviously, OP is free to just buy the first one he sees on Amazon, assuming "vast majority", but I was just giving a warning to investigate first.

Upside to them and downsides. If you have cheap bits they mushroom slightly on the hammer end of the bit, so you then have to unscrew everything and either chamfer the bit or force it out. PITA. This is more of an issue if you have a good air hammer that hits hard. Lot of them don't. (which IMO makes them useless other than making a racket)

Using high quality bits helps but there are a lot of cheap bits for air hammers out there. SnapOn makes good bits. Mayhew makes decent ones for the money they sell for.

I spun the spring retainer off and took a pic.
I ordered the one from NAPA and will take this with me to test the new one in the store.
