Currently have a KRL722 that is getting pretty full. Really don't want to add a top box because I like the work top. Have been considering a side cab. Most likely going to have to buy new, not many used options on that. Going to see the snap on man in person tomorrow to talk figures. He'd really like to get me up in a used triple bay box instead. I also have my old box, classic 78 in storage because I don't currently have room for two 56" boxes. Just don't know what to do, could sell both and try to get into a deeper 30 inch used triple bay. I'm guessing I could get about $2000-2500 for the KRL and $1500-2000 for the classic 78 just in the ball park range. Don't know if it's worth going wider on a 24" deep box or not.Problem is I really like the color combo on the KRL...

Most techs I've known start with a 722 and trade it in within a few years for a big fancy behemoth. I'm sure this makes the tool truck a lot of money since they give you an impressive sounding trade in value which seems to take away some of the sting of something like an Epic 68 because you end up doing it in two phases and on credit. In the end though, you're really more that way. I would recommend going used. The often charge more for the side cab than the actual market value of that box.

Depending what type of storage you need, a side box / locker might be what you need.
I've always added on side boxes. I currently have 4 side boxes of various types.

I always traded up, but now that I have a large roller / work center that I don't want to give up, I'm considering adding on in smaller sections.

When I was at about the same size as a 722 (think it was a 761 back then??) I went to 1022 with top chest and side locker. I had liked having the top open on teh 761, like the OP, but I find a work center much better as it's only open when in use and you can hang stuff on the back wall -- stuff just sitting on the top of a roller gets dirty as heck and gets knocked off by passers-by in the shop, so it was just a place to collect junk for me.

To me it comes down to some math. Can you get a deal on a side box that would be noticeable cheaper then buying a triple. For you there would be big gains going to a triple since it would be a 29" deep box. I have a 1022 and have floaded the idea of a side box which would make it basically a 1023. Every time I checked, the deals on a triple were cheaper then a side box which had nothing other then the dealer could wheel. I ended up buying a classic 60 bottom for a cart for less that offered more storage capacity.

You will notice a lot more storage with a 30 inch triple.

Yeah, I always price up my options by cost per volume of storage once all the specifics of discounts / trade in are figured in.

back when i was adding on to my work boxes, i was picking up trade in boxes cheap.

added a used 36" wide bottom box, 4 side boxes for under $1000, and picked up a damaged 26" roller for free. (all SO, besides a mac side box) gave me more than enough space, and i was still able to transport all them by myself.

I'd get a 29" triple and the talk myself into keeping the other two but that's just me I hate to sell anything if I don't have to.

Well talked to one dealer. Going to see what another local one says. He isn't known for being the best wheeler n dealer. 10% off cash sale on a side cab for my current box. Now, I got a good deal on this box when I bought it, wouldn't be ashamed of what I had in it with a add on cab. However, maybe it's just me but cash in hand in my opinion should do better than 10% off. But he is in the toolbox business and was trying his best to get me into an epiq. I honestly wasn't much on the epiq, would rather have another KRL I think. Anyways, on the Epiq double bank with the new 3 full drawer and ss top layout... Appraised both of my old boxes (C78 and 722) at 9 for trade in and I'd walk away with the epiq for another 3. I'm not sure how good of a deal that is but I have nowhere near that amount ******* in them. But I really hate to get rid of both, and for what I'd pay out dollar for dollar approaches used epiq territory on CL and ebay.
