I am in the process of final wiring my lift. I would like to put a switch on one of the 120 volt legs. This will allow me to turn off the switch when I am not using the lift and prevent my kids from playing with it. Is this acceptable?

This is a 10/3 wire with a 30 amp breaker.

I have seen lever style switch boxes in with a gray metal chasis. But I would prefer something smaller like a standard 120volt switch. I am not familar with switches that are rated for this amperage?

look for a Leviton MS302 you can also get it in a little enclosure that can be locked out.

Suitable horsepower-rated two-pole switches are available at big box stores nationwide for less than $10.00. You can mount them in a handy box or 4 inch square box. The two-pole switch ensures both 120 volt wires are cold when the switch is off, and is much safer for future servicing of the lift than is switching just one leg.

Another alternative is a small non-fused disconnect switch from Square D. They come in small weather-proof lockable enclosures, and are commonly used for outdoor A/C disconnects. These are around $20 at the same big box stores.

if you want a 110 switch say at the door get a double pole contactor about $22 bucks 110 coil voltage controls the 220v contactor. 8910dp12v02

these are heavy duty jobs ive used the snot out of them from everything to hps security light controllers to air compressors

cant use DP contactor in that application as they arent UL listed. Theyre only for inside listed equipment that uses a dp contactor.
