Hey guys. I can't even remember what I was searching for when I stumbled across this site. It was about 1am and before I knew it my wife was standing behind me at my office door telling me "do you know what time it is. Get to bed!" lol I had spend nearly 3 hours reading forums.

A little bit about myself. I have been a professional car audio installer for nearly 23 years and have owned my own mobile electronics and accessories business since 2004. BTW, if any of you have any questions about your vehicles for audio, video, security, remote start or accessories feel free to ask. I love to help people and give them the right information. I love cars and love to have a functional garage to make money and work on my projects and vehicles.

I was raised by a father who was a tool guy. Growing up I think he had every tool I could imagine and they all had their place and I better not touch them without permission. If I did I better ask and I BETTER put it back where I got it. He is retired Airforce (24 yrs, 3 tour Vietnam Veteran) and was lead electrician at Whiteman AFB till 1983. It's amazing how many customers that I go to their house to work on their vehicle and they hardly have a tool or even know how to use one. I thank my father for teaching me how to use tools, respect tools and take care of them.

We recently moved into a new home that came with a detached 20x30 garage. Our previous house had an old one bay detached garage that just wasn't very functional and was very scary. It was a crumbling block building with a really nice siding job. No way was I going to put any of my vehicles in it. I feel completely spoiled now to have the garage I've always wanted. I can see this forum giving me many great ideas to turn it into the man cave/workshop that I have always desired. I can see this easily being one of my favorite places to hang out. Its a fine mix of obviously garages but also what we work on in them and how we suggest and help each other out. Glad to meet you all.

Here's my garage. Sorry the trailer is blocking some but it's loaded full of stuff and even with the trailer dolly its a workout.

It's such a mess right now. We just moved in about two months ago and I had to throw everything in it. It's driving me crazy. About a quarter of it is the overflow stuff from the old house in the right back corner. Its about to be gone with a yard sale shortly.

Since I seen quite a few cars on here. Here's mine. 82 Camaro. Custom 2.8l V6 with 4-71 BDS Blower. I know. I'm crazy. "Who blows a 2.8 V6" Nobody.

last night was spent reading the whole thread on the "Party Garage" and the "1930's Garage" two awesome reads. I really needed to get some work done last night but I just couldn't pull away.

Told ya so....

And when you get time, check this one out: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=205604

I'm so beat today yet I find myself on here once again...lol Today was spent working on a 67 GTO installing a complete Kenwood audio system. I spent half the day trying to get the damn center dash speaker out. Then I had to fabricate a new mount for two 4 inch speakers and get it back up in there. It was sooo frustrating. Hopefully I'll get more progress done tomorrow. I figure I'll relax and see what else I can look at on here. I will say my jealousy kicks in on some of these....lol

Not my garage but hey, its a garage :)

I love the Camaro! Thinking outside the box is cool. Welcome to GJ.

Thanks JD. I've always had "different" vehicles. The last time I was at a little car get together some young punks were kind of giving me **** about fixing up a 2.8 v6. They were throwing at me what they would have done with swapping out for a TPI engine, small block, big block and what not. The old guy that was sitting next to me yelled "Hey! Everyone does that!" They shut up and moved on. Back in high school I had a 87 Nissan Hardbody mini truck that we stuffed a Supercharged 5.0 engine into. That bad boy was 460 horsepower and I'd probably wouldn't be here today if I didn't sell it...lol I did manage to get a 147 mph ticket with it when I was 17. I've slowed down a little since then.

That's a cool GTO to be working on! Makes you want to do a first rate job on something like that. It's not like working on some uninspiring run of the mill vehicle. That's a nice looking mount you fabricated for the two 4" speakers! I've learned something new for one of my upcoming projects...

Its a cool car. My father used to have a Judge. It was before I was born but he has lots of pictures of it. He had to sell it when he got orders for Japan. I'd love to build one for him.

As for the dash speakers it would have been much easier to do two smaller 3-1/2 inch speakers but the dash speakers are the most important in one of these vehicles. You want the sound in front of you loud and clear. It will bounce off the windshield and back at you. It was a challenge in these old cars due to only having one speaker location in the center of the dash. The four inch are the biggest I could fit in there due to the vents and heater controls. I also ordered special kick panels that will also hold a set of 4x6 Kenwoods. I need more sound up front and I wanted something that will give you sound from the sides so it doesn't sound like it's coming from a center channel only. With the small size of the speakers it will lack the mid-bass that I like but there's just no room for the larger speakers unless I cut into the doors. The customer had no problem with me doing that but I told him we will wait on that. I feel confident I can get the sound without having to sacrifice altering the doors. The only cutting that will be on the car is the dash for the CD Player. I have mixed emotions with that but in the end it's the customers choice. There are old style dual knob radios with new technology USB and ipod control but he just wanted a basic CD.

Here's the kick panels from Custom Autosound. They were $125 shipped. They came with the companies cheap speakers but they will get swapped out for some Kenwoods. I ordered them with the speakers so I could keep the grilles. Kenwood USED to supply grilles for their 4x6s but I guess they figure most people are putting them in the factory locations so they were no longer needed. Basically I had to pay $25 more for the kick panels just to have grilles. If the car had AC I could have gotten ones with 6-1/2" speakers for more sound but due to it being without AC the kick panels have vent's that take up the room for something larger.
