The time has come to expand my box. I am not interested in getting a new one, but I will add a side cabinet or a locker. The box is a Classic 78 Top and Bottom. The units I am trying to decide between are listed below

Locker

End Cab
http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item...group_ID=23544&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog

Which would you go with, and why. I have my thoughts, but I wanted to hear other opinions. I attached a picture of the box for reference. The addition will go on the left side.

All depends on what you want to store in it. If you're looking to store smaller hand tools, the end cab make more sense to me. If you're looking to store larger items, the locker would make more sense. Just my $.02

Oh, nice box, by the way!

I would get the full height locker. I have a lot of PPE that I would store in there, along with manuals, binders, cans, and bigger items. I'd love to hang my FR smock, welding helmet, gloves, etc

I'd go for the locker. With the shelves and drawers that come with it, you'll have more storage space that the end cab... plus all of the room above where the end cab would end. It'll look better with full height addition - the end cab would look out of place. And... the locker accepts the slots-n-dots stuff, so there is more storage there. Definitely the locker.

What are your storage needs? Full length locker looks better but you can always add the drawer topper to the half cab, just more money.

I like keeping everything in drawers. If I go with the cabinet, the top will have the chargers for the battery tools on it, and the cordless tools. I can use the extra drawers to move stuff from the main box, and free up some room there.

If I get the locker, the charger will go on the first shelf, but the drawers are open more and the tools I'll put in there would be used less often. One drawer would be body hammer and sanders, one would be brake tools, and the last would be compression, fuel, oil pressure and other testers. That would leave the top two shelves open, but I would only put boxed tools there. I don't have many of those once I put them testers in the bottom drawer.

I think it'll be the locker as well. The drawers give me more organazation, but the locker gives me more future growth. Thanks for the input, helped to cement the choice. Let the ordering begin!

You were quite clear; you want other opinions within an either locker or side cabinet framework, and that's certainly your choice.

It's all in the perspective. Some guys want it new, want it to match, want it all on one unit and are willing to spend $2500 to make it so. You've got clear majority recommendation to go with the locker.

On the other hand, there are those of us who will only shop used We can buy much more space, more utility for a fraction of that cost. Won't be new, won't always match the nice yellow color, won't always be in one unit.

Your money, your box, your decision.

If I could find a used one in good condition, I would certainly consider it. But it would have to be yellow, the OCD in me wouldn't allow it to be a different color. That's a tall order. I had red, blue and black boxes in the past, and when I saw the yellow on the truck, I really liked how it would brighten up the garage. I am glad I got it, but finding things that match is a real challenge. I have been looking for a while, and nothing local has come up. Snap-On is running a 15% off promo on accessories in December, so that made me decide to bit the bullet.

It looks like this is in your home garage. If that is the case in get the 2406 (end cab) as it will store hand tools better. Things like drills grinders and such can go under your work bench/on the shelf etc. The added bonus is its a bit less expensive.

If you are in a professional shop, then I would go with the 2403 (locker) as it provides a secure place to store the bigger stuff.

Well, UPS frieght made a delievery today. I ended up with the end cab, the locker was a little bit too big for where I wanted to move the box to. I got the cabinet in today, and the brace for this piece is very beefy. It was a little bit of a pain in the rear to install, I ended up jacking up the front of the box to remove a wheel and install the brace. Once I had that done, I installed the chrome trim and then placed the cabinet into position. Thankfully I had a friend to help, the side box weighed in at 247 pounds (according to the UPS frieght slip). Finished it up with the chrome drawer gaurds. Now to wait for the cart to come in.
