I have this oil filter socket that I'd like to add a 3/8 square hole to, its aluminum & the wrench size is 24mm.
I was thinking of filing the flats down to just above a 7/8 socket, so it would an interference fit. Put the smaller socket in the oven & the bigger one in the fridge. Then putting together with a hammer.

just buy a cheap 24MM socket(in this case Chinese is OK) saw it off so its only as deep as the hex head and epoxy it on.

If you are up for all that filing, maybe drill a 3/8 hole and square that with a file instead.

Some filter housing on the 2ZR are stupidly tight, I have broken many of these filter caps, there isn't a square drive there for a reason.

I've a filter cap wrench from advanced auto that has a 3/8 square drive on it.

Sucker fits so tight to the filter cap it has stayed there for somewhere around 25,000 miles. I just couldn't get the damn thing off again after one oil change I just left it on there.

To get it off was getting kinda sketchy I figure it is just as good being there either forever or until it falls off. And as it hasn't fallen off yet I don't think it ever will.

I have a shallow 24 3/8 drive for that cup. For what it's worth the matco one is 10x better. It has grooves to grab onto the plastic

Yeah, mine is from the AST Toyota 3 piece set. The other 2 have square drives.
I'm going to get a 24mm socket & use a strip of thin aluminum (placed over the hex) & press them together. What's the worst that can happen?
