Hey Gj need some help. I am tryin to install a over the range microwave. The duct work for venting is there but no outlet. I am tryin to figure out the best way on how to put an outlet for the microwave. Here is a pic of the area

Question is can I run a wire for the outlet from that light switch? Or should I run the wire for the new outlet from the other side of the wall because there is an outlet already there. I am new to home electrical but have experience in car electrical which is different. Here is a pic of the other side of the wall

Do you have access to the floor or attic? I'd be aiming for a new circuit originating in your load center.

What is that switch for?

The switch is for a light. I decided to cut behind the wall I want to try to use the wiring for the old outlet for my new outlet. How should I do that?

I agree with those stating a new circuit. Just last week I went to a house for a report of a microwave blowing a breaker. Someone wired the microwave outlet to the lights. Too much draw for that circuit.

The only other draw that would be on that circuit would be a washer which only runs so often. I'm tryin learn how to run wires from the old outlet to the new outlet if possible

Microwave needs a dedicated circuit per code. I wired mine with my range because the range is gas and has little draw. It should not be wired to general power circuits on countertop.

It is not allowed to connect a built in microwave to the required small appliance branch circuits, the only things allowed to be connected are, clocks, or power for gas fired ranges, ovens, counter mounted cooking units. 210.52(B)(1)
