So I would like to add a second motion light on the front of my pole building. I have steel on the exterior and the inside is finished. Attic is not insulated yet so wiring wont be bad.

My problem is that the light I already have is mounted on something similar to this.... and I'm have a hard time trying to figure out a way to mount this to the exterior steel. The original one in have is recessed into the steel so that it sits pretty much flush.

Any ideas on a way to mount it? I thought about running 4 self taping screws but didnt know if that would be enough to support a light fixture.72d2dfc1aaff82ee0c2a0a48f0b4a76e.jpg

Sometimes it's best to look beyond what you have. Just because you have that mount doesn't mean that's the best option. Is your steel siding flat? It would seem so since you showed that mount. Me, I'd figure a way to put a weatherproof steel or plastic box where you want to mount the fight. That way you will have a solid mount.

Using the ears that come on many models you can bolt it up from the inside and punch through to allow the mounting face to accept your trim with a proper gasket. you will probably need to make some spacer blocks, but you'll know the thing will be stout.

If it's corrugated, you can make or buy the S shaped mounting strips to provide a flat mount at the exterior surface. Need silicone.

Remember, anything you hang outside is subject to birds, wind, whatever. YMMV
