Adding a porch to a garage

Hello everyone, I had a question about building a porch. I am building a 2 story house and I would like to build a porch off of the second story that extends over to the garage wall. The garage roof is the same height as the house, I used 2x6x18s for the garage walls.
The house has a a true 2x12 band board so I know anchoring to that won't be a problem but when the porch extends over to the garage wall there isn't a band board to anchor to. I'm not sure if I would be OK to to use lag bolts to secure the deck ledger board to the 2x6s or not. I would love to hear anyone's thoughts /suggestions

It will be 8' high, with a lean to roof with metal used instead of asphalt shaingles

Just to make sure I understand, the house is under construction but the garage is existing?

One thing to note: if the house has a conventional frost foundation and the garage is on a floating slab, it's not going to work. What will happen is the garage will move up and down when the ground freezes and thaws every fall and spring, while the house stays stationary, and that will cause strain on the porch structure.

This is new construction, the house is on a foundation and the garage is on short walls.

I get it now, I thought you were trying to build a bridge across to a detached garage. So assuming this deck has all been engineered with the house and some piers and posts are all figured to support the roof, you're just looking for a better way to attach the ledger to the studs as it passes above the garage man door.

I would just let-in a 2x12 to match the house rim board, extended past the end of the porch.

Just continue your rim board from the second floor across the garage wall. Notch it into the 2x6 like a let-in brace. Your deck ledger then attaches to a continuous rim board the entire length.

Check your local code.
That may make your garage a "attached" one.
And they often require a full (non-slab) foundation.
