I just purchased a Lorex security system with a monitor from amazon. The video is being feed to a monitor by the Hdmi cable now from the lorex dvr
I would like to also have a monitor in the shop. Can I use the vga OUTPUT to another monitor from the dvr?

Yes, you can connect to both the HDMI and the VGA.

When I had my lorex, I had a VGA monitor on the rack with the DVR and I connected an HDMI to component converter to a component to catv converter and combined into the ota feed for my house. If I could tune the TV to channel 3.0, I could see the display.

Since my lorex got fried, I bought a night owl and it only has HDMI. So I need to move the connection when I want to view on the rack monitor.

VGA will go that far.

Plug a monitor into the board and make sure it puts out the hdmi and vga at the same time.

That said I’d run hdmi with a duplexer for future upgrades

Should work fine at that distance. If not usually we'd duplex the HDMI signal and send it over twisted pair with an encoder.
You can get a powered HDMI splitter (1 in - 2 out) and HDMI cables up to 50' work just fine without needing baluns, encoders, or TP.

I used to do this regularly until someone relocated the cable and substituted it with a lower-quality alternative. Over time, I've also had the distribution amplifiers/splitters start to have signal output issues over longer lengths, preventing it from reaching a distance of 50 feet.

Less callbacks.

Fiber optic HDMI cables go pretty far now.

I saw those the other day. Integrating everything into one cable with low powered electronics is very cool.

My biggest concern with running anything over a distance is the serviceability over the long term. I've had HVAC guys come in after the fact and put things like AC ducts right between a cable run making it impossible to replace or pull a cable down the road.

If OP has a very accessible area to run a cable, I'd just buy a quality long HDMI cable from a cheap place like Monoprice like someone suggested and call it a day (it will most likely work especially for the output coming from a NVR). But if it becomes a PITA to run a cable or pull line it may be worth just putting something a little more robust like SM/MM or twisted pair w/ encoders (which have become pretty affordable).

Another option if its not something you need all the time and the unit has a phone app is to cast it from your phone to a smart TV or just use a cheap tablet.
I have a secondary system for my shop and its way to far to run a cable to the house so I just view the cameras from my phone if needed.

I have a monitor in my shop from my house DVR. I just repurposed the coax that was formerly the shop's cable TV. I put BNC ends on the cable and use the composite video output on the DVR. It's not "HD Quality", but it gets the job done.

Return it if you can. ******* tech is proprietary with crappy app, difficult to search for events and ******* support. Lots of things you can’t do in the app and must be done at the dvr/nvr. One of the worse buy…

Anyways If you are just viewing you can install the app and run it on the shop computer or any android tv ? Or you can use hdmi splitter ? Maybe?

VGA is used in countless conference rooms to run from a desk to a ceiling mounted projector via the wall and ceiling so you should be fine.
with vga you don't get as good details as if it is with HDMI 4k tv sets... like reading license plates zoom... when I first got the system Naturnal or something series... tested it on the 4K sony... I can read the license plate across the street fine... installed it with Cat6 etc wires... and tried it with the normal monitor 24" crappy and a bit fuzzy, installed the lorex Cloud apps. runs it offf my computer.. same thing. errr.r... cant even read the plates off the cars in front of my house. Still better than the old analog system though. Just not that great as it sells.

There are lots of KVM / HDMI to network cable extenders etc if OP want to feel spendy over long distances, don't know the end result quality though.

Return what? Which dastardly text and crappy app are you referring to?

What do you think, you are returning. As if you never use the apps to connect to your Lorex nvr
My lorex cloud app works fantastic for the last 3 years I've had it. How is a 4k NVR ******* tech?

My lorex cloud app works fantastic for the last 3 years I've had it. How is a 4k NVR ******* tech?
1) Jason is that you? You **** and can’t even identify your defect in the ntp. Daylight saving time off by 1 hours if you set it to auto. Just like the Samsung tvs. For 2 times a year during the week of daylight saving times you have to manually set the time. Their firmware as of last year when I called in is defining the old daylight saving time dates that was change few years back. Which is 2 weeks behind the current define date.
******* tech fail to acknowledge the problem, close Ticket sighting a work around which is manually set it.

2) app on desktop or console does not search events well. Max playback speed is 8x and you cannot input specific time as if you need to sit and watch the video to find an event. You have to use the slider or nothing.
Try search for something that happens 2 days back and see what happens. Either sit through the 2 days event at 8x speed or nothing. You can argue about the detection setting all you wanted but if it falls out of that area…. The slide is way too unresponsive either you over shoot by minutes and missing footage or it goes haywire. Searching at the console is better but still max 8x speed only.
Try export just that 5 minute of event only at max resolution. You can’t, you have to export the whole hour or file size is the same as 1 hours…

Try link the two camera playback…. Nope you can’t you have to deal with one camera replay at a time.

3) things you can do only at the console and not the remote app. Set time, reset to default when camera goes haywire define trigger zone. Probably lots more.

4) app is confusing as duck, plain **** to use you are locked into their cloud services. Means you must go through them if you want connectivity over the internet or network.

5)Oh yea I called in with one of my camera all the sudden only recognize purple or green. They knew the problem but hides the actual cause blames my network cable, blames my network, blames the power line. And everything under the sun… wtf it needs a reset and not just a power off… you have to be at the console and needs a monitor or tv attach with mouse to do that.

6) you know that network cable have a weather cap that screw on to the POE at the camera. Try ask them what it is, and see if they would tell you where to buy it cheaper than their $20 each while eBay sells for $7 for a bag of 10.

7) proprietary camera/nvr and incompatible with other vendors.

Bottom line it’s one pos.

Well I'm not Jason, sorry you have such a hard life apparently. I can input any time to the minute on playback to start searching.

I've never had any issue with cameras acting funny, needing rebooted, reestablished, or whatever kind of issue you're trying to describe. Never had a time issue either. Not sure which system you bought, but my 16 channel has been flawless, including running 4 off a seperate poe splitter in my basement. 1000004290.jpg

Dahua has always been Chinese ****. The commercial cameras are good but yeah, the NVR products are questionable.

Lorex was always the crappier Dahua. It's so bad they sold the whole Lorex division over last year since they probably don't want to mess with that garbage anymore.

People have different NVR models so an issue with one may not be a problem on another. Even Lorex has tiers of garbage. The higher end products were always very close to Dahua commercial units.

Yeah I have their supposedly semi professional model supposedly to be better or top tier but turned out to be ****. Not a total turd but still pretty bad that I still kept the hikvision analog system events to search for something that happens to shorten the search time. Just use the Lorex to get clear pics.

Not to hijack ops thread, he can always run a client off a tablet or shop computer save the $$$ of running a hdmi to where ever.

lol, Jason is that top tier support.

I don’t think you used your systems in a busy street setting and that is a search time frame nothing with able to jumping to a specific time on the fly without going through different menu.

Do you even know what it means to be a Karen, Jason . Or understand what does it mean a good app from a ****** app that does the same function is the intuitive design of the gui, and not just any one slapped on some good graphics in the back street of Bangalore and called it an app. But I am pretty sure we have a terry whose alt. name is Karen, Jason.
I didn’t go on a rant-page about Lorex but you asked for why, I gave you the reasons. Now you can’t handle the truth. So sad, so bad
