Hi all,
I have an existing pole barn without a soffit, the metal just aligns with the walls.

It appears insurance is goin to replace some (maybe all) of the roof and i'd like to add a soffit to enhance the look.

Will i need to cut the wall metal to allow for the soffit?

Pictures of my shop in my build link.

Thanks

You should be able to either attach a 2x4 (to the wall) that's level with the bottom of whatever you use for a fascia board. The other would be to screw a channel to the metal and slide the soffits into it. Depending on the existing framing, all you have might be the wall metal to scew to.
I'd bet that if you cut the metal, you'll be adding support framing. This will add a fair bit of work, that's why I'm suggesting building on top of what you have.
Whatever you do, buy the proper closure strips of you'll have a wonderful place for bee's.

I think you may need to do some metal cutting anyway in order to run your rafter tails down to the facia. Although maybe you could just box something in

I didn't find your build thread but can you extend the rafters easily? Have to cut "notches" in top of siding to add a 2x4 along side top chord?

Truss spacing?

And is it the soffit your after or just the eave and roof overhang? The soffit is easy, Jack points our, but the roof extension is more complicated.
