Adding a stairway to access garage storage

So I have built a new 28'x40' garage. I have 11' walls and spread web trusses for above garage storage. I do foresee many trips up and down to get things out of storage and originally purchased a pull down (folding) ladder for those trips. After further thought I am strongly considering a 'stairway' instead of the ladder. I am almost 100% certain I am not permitted in any way to alter the current trusses so I am looking to build a stairway 24" wide that can fold up to the ceiling and be pulled down as needed. Does anyone have this type of stairway solution in their garage? If so, do you have designs & drawings that I could review? What are the dos and don'ts of such an endeavor? Thanks for your time & GOD Bless, Chad.

I will add photos of the inside of the garage tomorrow as I don't have power to the garage yet so no lights.. :(

I couldn't get the link to open on my work computer (youtube blocked) but is this kinda what you were looking for?

Looks a little complicated from the picture, but also cool!

I'm also trying to figure out the same sort of setup as the "attic folding stairs" all seem kinda rickety to me, but don't want to give up any valuable floor space for stairs... When I save up to get my auto lift purchased and installed I'll just use that to get into the loft ;)

Yes, that is something like what I was thinking. Does anyone have plans, materials list or other information about such a stairs? I like the hydraulics however that is not a requirement.

Turn down volume. This is what I did. Hardest was to figure the pivot point and balance it correctly

Used it because someone left it behind at a mall i do work at. This thing is sturdy as heck. Good luck!

Thanks for the information. That ladder from the mall is one heavy duty ladder! Not sure that is what I am looking for but if I found one I know what I would do with it. Thanks again & GOD Bless!

It may be easier to spend more and get a better attic ladder. My home has a really nice aluminum attic ladder. No idea where it came from, it was here when I purchased.

When we bought our house it had one of those pull-down attic ladders in the garage. It was three sections and very flimsy since the garage is about 12' tall.

Once it started breaking, we replaced it with this home-built and very sturdy setup, which is like a steep set of stairs like what you would see for a loft.

Thanks for all the ideas. At this time I decided to just use a fold down aluminum stairs from Lowes. I will keep these ideas around and hope to build something more permanent over the next couple of years. Thanks & GOD Bless!
