Adding a swing joint?

So my buddy just finished up with a gas line project. I told him he needs a swing joint but I don't know how he would do it. He has 3/4" black pipe, the underground sealed inside pvc pipe. The exposed part is in the pic. Where it has a 90 at the top and goes through the wall, the inside is just a tee and drip leg so that's easily removable. My question, how could he add a swing joint to this while still using the existing hole? There is a coupling half way up but it's not a union. I told him to call a plumber but he doesn't want to. fad72017ac0386ff5943196205597d2c.jpg

While I'm at it, should he ground it to the grounding point in the picture, or is there no need for it to be grounded.

Looks like you've recently joined GJ so Welcome.

To get best advice from GJ guru's you should say Where this is located. Now would be good time to Update GJ Profile with City / State / Country.

I'd guess if ground rod/bonding right there outside, then yes the black pipe steel should be bonded there. Sparkies/Plumbers with give you details for grounding of that setup, and more typical setups so be patient.

;)Swing joint,is that some kind of expansion joint to compensate for frost heave?
How about using a piece of csst up top before it enters the house?
Id also find some way to support the pipe while still allowing a little up/down movement.

Yeah it's rock solid now. The hole through the wall is very tight with the pipe. I think if the frost heaves it up it will split the pipe at that 90 up top.

First, I would replace that coupling with a union.

Second, a pipe that long need some support other than at the elbow and at the bottom.

This the only thing I have found that is called a "swing joint and it is on a gas pipe ! 3 elbows, a close ****** and a 4-6" ******. Looking at it, it works like the OP described. Probably should be checked for leaks every couple of years.

Also used on sprinkler heads.
