Adding AC to my furnace, Dust and A-coil questions

( Duct not Dust )So as you can see in the pictures I have my waste oil furnace off the ground. This only gives me 34 3/4 inches from the top of the furnace to the ceiling. The A-coil is new and was free but is a vertical unit, I was going to lay it horizontal and get a new drip pan. The A-coil is 26" the case is 30" tall. At some point I may run a duct sock but for now 2 ceiling fans work just fine. This is a 5 ton 410A system with Goodman coil on the cheap. This is a hobby barn and use will be little so compromises that effect performance I can live with.

Should I have an elbow made up to connect my furnace to the A-coil? Any issues running that a-coil horizontal with line set coming in the top?

Or could I go ghetto and mount the a-coil vertical and cut the side of the case out to attach duct work? I would upgrade the drip pan to a high temp unit.

Any thoughts or ideas are welcome.

Don't see a drain pan on that coil. Have a stainless condensate pan made, lay coil in cabinet horizontal and mount it on return side with filter rack and trapped condensate drain. Find the right tonage air handler with coil. Ac takes more blower hp than straight heat 400 cfm per ton.

I see my EFM is only around 1600 CFM, for some reason i had 2200 cfm in my head. This will take some re-engineering. Not a whole lot more room up on my floating island.

I found a different version of my furnace listed with the same fan 3/4HP 1075 RPM but 2 filters rated at 1903 @ .2WC. Using my wet A-coil pressure drop it seems im at 356 CFM per ton. It looks like i could drop in the 1HP blower from the next size furnace into mine, that gets me to 2150 at .2WC. Its the same furnace just larger filter opening and larger combustion chamber-nozzle.

I'd say a coil with a metal pan would work better than a plastic one with an oil burner.

What ever you do, do not mount that A-coil vertical and cut the side out. You wont get your maximum cooling and humidity removal. A-coils need to have the air enter the bottom and exit through the top, so you are using the entire surface of the coil without any restrictions. By cutting the side out, you will only be using half that coil.

I see what your saying about limited space, if you would put a 90 on top the furnace and feed your coil horizontally, Hopefully you can get a pan to adapt in there.

I sent my drawings to the local tin knocker he we will be making me a elbow and drain pan. His work is slow so he will come out once the coil is hung and give me a quote on tin duct work. I am working on adding more filter area to the furnace to help with air flow. Line set is next on my purchase list, I should be at $600 for everything but duct work.

Can you tip that furnace on its side, then come off the plenum with an elbow for your coil?

Well its done just in time to turn the heat on. I have just under 1k in my 5 ton unit. The barn was 70' and it pulled it down to 68' in 10-15 min, not really a fair test since it was 45'F outside and i never checked my superheat.
