Adding Exterior Light

I have small carriage lights on each side of my garage door and they look nice but are a joke for lighting the driveway. I want to get a LED flood light and would like to mount it here:

But I have never done so over a board and batten style siding. Could I just purchase a mount block like this:

Then trim the vertical "batten" out of the way, screw the mount block to the wall and just caulk around it really good? I just dont see a simple way of flashing a mounting block like this to a board and batten style siding.

Thoughts or tips appreciated!

This is the one I put on mine. Go either on the fascia or just under the eaves, you want as much height as possible.
