adding filter boot to Mr Heater...

I have a Mr Heater Big Max and I am thinking of adding a filter to the back of it to keep out wood dust and cigar smoke off of the burner. I am planning on having a tinner bend me up a box to allow this. It seems like it would be a good thing. I have scoured the internet and have found nothing. What do you guys think?

I think it will impede the flow the heater was designed to have, thus causing the temps to rise above the specs and cause overheat troubles

I think it's a terrible idea.

These heaters are designed around a specific airflow. If you restrict the inlet like that, you'll overheat it. The blower just isn't designed to be used with a filter. Particularly one that may get clogged.

I have seen warnings in the installation instruction book telling you to nor attempt to duct this type of unit.

I think that applied to adding filters.

Would be nice, though.

+5 on no filter or duct work.

Stand alone air filteration would be the solution to the wood shop dust issue.
