I would like to add 3 lights to my garage. I currently have 3 lights on a switch. What would be the best way to accomplish this? Would I just tap into one of the outside lights then daisy chain from there? Should I use 14-2 or 14-3? I have included a drawing below of my current situation. Thanks!

Here’s the light I want to tap. It connected to an outlet for the garage door opener. Do I just use 14-3 and tie things in based on color. I assume I’d connect the red wire from the new light to the existing red wire then run a jumper to the existing light. Any help would be appreciated since I don’t have much experience in this field. Thanks!

Do you want all of the lights to come on with the one switch?... so all would be on all the time as opposed to a separate switch for the new ones? If new switch is added, just take the power from your existing run, then go to the new light boxes.

What is the size of the breaker for the circuit the wiring is on? Also, what size is the wire?

Jim

15 amp breaker, #14 wiring.

Yes I would like all the lights to come on with the single switch. I’m probably over complicating things but just want to make sure I do it right.

Based on your description of how it works, they may have used 14-3 so that you could have constant power to the garage opener receptacle (the two blacks tied together probably extend to the receptacle), and switched power to the light (the red). If this is the case, you should be able to use 14-2 off the white and red wires to extend power to additional lights.
