adding kitchen counter recepticle on wall by counter

I need to add a recepticle for the kitchen counter. The counter has a man made quartz backsplash on the side wall that wouldn't be easy to cut in a box. Looking to satisfy the code for a gfci to to that side of the counter.

Would installing a box just to the outside (right side) of the backsplash count as a counter recepticle? It would be within 3 - 4 inches from where the backsplash ends on the side wall and the normal sheetrock starts,
and about 4 inches from the front edge of the counter and match the height of the existing recepticles that were there when the counters were installed.

It has to be no more than 24" to the inside corner, 24" to the next recep (4 feet if measuring both ways out from an inside corner) and/or 24" from a sink edge.

Where does that requirement come from? I know that no point along the wall is to be more than 24" from an outlet, but I'm not aware of the no closer than 24" to an inside corner.

Not "no closer," no more. If a counter is more than 12 inches wide, it gets a recep. In that case the outlet would be within 24" from the next or the adjacent inside corner.

It sounds like this is legal. I have an inspection coming and didn't include a couple new looking circuit improvements but don't figure a guy would say much going from a 3 wire to a 4,,, point being, if this is a practical way to upgrade it everyone wants to see it done.
People frequently come on and talk about liability but the truth be known an insurance co and the inspection world would just as see you put in a new modern wire if you are replacing or taking load from old.

This is the area that codes have really expanded on in residential. There have been other changes but the kitchen and a bit of bathroom is where it meets the road or the mileage add up for lack of better wording. I just remodeled a kitchen with a bath backed up to it. Just replaced one circuit with 5.
You are probably not just satisfying a gfci requirement here but a circuit requirement as well. If you are partying pull a 3 conductor and put in a quad,,, hahaha.
I did this in my kitchen, put one on gfci and the other simple duplex.
