Need to add onto an existing surface mounted multi ganged switch box. The original box is fed with EMT conduit.

Other than using 2, 1/2 in. EMT connectors, and a small section of EMT conduit would I be able to use a "1/2 in. Rigid Conduit ******" ?

It appears that with the ****** I would only need 2 locknuts to hold it in place, and I could get the new box closer to the existing.

Yup. Make sure it's a electrical ****** and either lock nut both sides (inside and out) or lock nuts on the outside of both boxes and metal bushings on the inside.

Btw, two locknuts only on the inside isn't a sufficient bond of the boxes. If you tighten it up, it'll deform the box.

You could also use a offset ****** if the KO's don't exactly align and you'd like to raise or lower the new box a tad.

You can also get a long chase ****** with one locknut between the boxes and one on he inside of the other box.

LXCam thanks. Probably will use the locknuts inside and outside as you suggested.
Not sure what the metal bushing you refer to is.
Is it this plastic bushing ?

Rather than a long chase ****** with a locknut between the boxes, you might consider this:

It's called a box connector, are designed for doing just what you are try to do, and they are manufactured by both Bridgeport and Arlington.

Yes that is a plastic insulated bushing

Something like that is suitable. It's required to protect the wire from the edge of the ******.

I'd use a box connector, or replace the box with one the right size (or a gang box that you can add gangs to as you need more and more switches...

I opted for the rigid conduit ****** with 4 locknuts, while the standard box connector looked promising I needed more distance from the original box.
