Adding pull chain to work light?

Hi all, I'm looking for a sanity check before I install a new drop/pendant light with a separate pull chain.

The existing fixture has a pull chain integral to the fixture, but is flush mount. I'd like the light to be a pendant style to hang closer to the work area, and I'm not finding many fitting/cheap "industrial looking" options that have a switch at the bulb or a pull chain built in. So why not find the fixture I want and add the pull chain switch? The only catch is- that this box is wired into the feed for the bedroom above. I don't want to turn the light off and lose power above!

Does my sketch make logical sense? I'm no electrician, hence my reasoning for the post. I appreciate any help/encouragement! OR if you know of any cheapish (<$50) hanging lamps, with a metal shade that have a switch at the lamp, I'm all ears!

The diagram is ok. You could use a clip on work light with some modification.

You have an extra wire nut on the blacks lol, otherwise looks good

Lol. Good point... I was just reaaaaly trying to separate that pull switch! Drew it before I was through my first coffee, pardon the redundant wire!

My T5HO strips hanging over my workbench have pull chain switches in the ends of them. The old T12 strips had small 3/8 knockouts in the end plates just for pull chain switches, these new ones did not, I had to drill the hole. Two fixtures end to end over 16 ft of workbench. One pull chain on one end, one on the other end. works nice.

I've added pull chains to most/many of my workshop 4ft fluorescents
handy when you don't want to pay for all the lights all the time..
or if you only want one light on on the back wall.
