Greetings. I have been lurking about for some time but with a limited attention span, probably due to the (approaching 4 years) adjustment to being a parent of twins (it's really good, but different than before). My shop is based on a childhood vision, loosely based on the shop of an eccentric retired machinist I know, but mostly by the trauma of very badly wanting a machinist vice from Santa and then receiving a aluminum wood vice, I never recovered as you may see. The shop supports my personal interest in design. Among my interest are performance cars, industrial design, the machine age and skateboarding pools. The one small project that I have been tackling since the arrival of the kids is making foundry patterns for several versions of a skate truck that I have been machining and riding.
Things change, there is a noticeable shift in my free time for focusing on the interesting and the challenging. In the last year the two car (1 3/4 really, and not actually for cars anymore) shop containing much iron had yet another lathe (making 3) pushed in there in the last year and I couldn't even walk in. I had to climb...anyway I'm putting it back into shape. I will continue to steal from the greats here at TGJ, and some day I be able to get some work done -instead of doing my semi annual machine rearrange in the shop. Cheers.

Hey welcome to GJ, yeh doesn't life change when kids come around... nothing wrong with dreaming about what you're going to do if you don't have the chance to do much more than that right now ! And... hey , you can't dream properly if you don't actually have the tool in your garage. That starts to become just plain.. fantasy ?? :bounce:

Welcome to the board. You've got to post some pictures of the shop and also some of the stuff you do. (I didn't know people still skated in pools. I'm flashing back to my youth, now. :) )

Aaron8x608 - Welcome! Now that you have been welcomed and have introduced yourself, get busy and post some pictures...:bounce:
Suggestions: The twins of course!; your projects, tools, toys, and shop; your design sketches; and, most certainly, the machinist's vise you must certainly own by now.

Welcome to GJ, Aaron. Are you sure we're not related? My twins are 14 and just started High School. But my boarding days included pools and half pipes. I still have my G&S with ACS 651 and Kryptonics hanging in the shop. But you're fabricating trucks is cool. As mentioned before, post pix.

Welcome Aaron, I'm interested in machining as well, and have a few machines in my basement. I'd love to see photos of your shop if you have any.

Thanks,

Nelson
