I know this should probably of gone in Custom handeled ratchet thread But its not........... .I think SO may have something similar to this for 3/4in drive ratchets but mine is a HF 3/8dr that I cut the handel off of except for about 1in then I took a HF 1/2in socket and slid the it ovet the stub so the drive end is out. What this resulted in was a ratchet that I can have adjustable by using different length extensions, my next plan is to get a Universal joint and weld one part so it only bends only one way so it can be a flex head when needed also.
Yeah I know the socket isnt perfectly straight but it works for now mabey I will so another more precise one in the future.

You are supposed to pretend that the "offset" was a "feature" not a mistake

I seen something like that from SO but it seems it never caught the public well. If this works for you and can handle the torque of a rusty old bolt you got youself a winner.
Its not about pleasing the masses when its you doing the work. Use it, test it and build a prettier one later if this passes the test of time.

I was going to try that with a 90 degree angle to the handle but found a flex head first. Now I'm happy to not have sacrificed the other ratchet as I rarely use the flex at a 90 degree angle.

I think it is a neat idea. It needs some refinement like you said but I could see where it could be a useful tool in some situations.

Find a screwdriver or prybar handle that you like, remove the shank, drill out the handle, and drive another extension into the handle. This would get you a comfy handle that you could use on your ratchet. Plus, you could use the handle by itself as a 3/8" driver.

IH Guy - I like your ingenuity! Some of our best ideas come when we're just farting around in the shop. Keep trying stuff - you'll never know where an idea will lead you to if you don't follow it.

Yep, got one of those in my tool box. Dont use it very often though, considering I have every length of ratchet it seems, and I never use it like a regular ratchet, its always when you need to use it as an offset that its needed, but when you need it, its priceless.

Can you put an extension in the end? or just the top?...is that 3/8?

You can put the extension, or another drive tool, in from the end as well as the top and bottom. I mostly use mine with either the top or bottom holes for restricted access applications rather than as a variable length ratchet.

Couple things that you can do with the end hole and a breaker bar is make a flex head ratchet and a push pull ratchet.

ETA Yeah it is 3/8". MAC also used to make them in 3/8" too but I think theirs is discontinued.
