Does anyone know who makes a decent adjustable spud wrench? I'd like something that can take a beating but isn't necessarily top dollar as it will mostly be used for the pointy end.

Its a fairly specialized tool, probably not much in the way of knock offs and if it was used a lot might be worth the investment in quality tool. Where in Michigan might a guy find the use for the pointy end?

For an expensive tool they go for almost nothing on eBay. I would think any good wrench company or Kline would be good.

I work for a fabrication shop that makes and sells industrial (like Ford and GM sized) paint/wash systems and other equipment. The spud wrench is handy when we are lining up some of the stainless panels (12' to 20' tall) for the wash system as you can jab it into one of the holes until both parts are snug due to the taper. I see on Amazon there is a Klein one and a Snap-On/Williams one. I know SO bought out JH Williams a while back and uses it as their industrial brand, I haven't used any of the Williams tools but looking at the price that one may be the first one I use.

I am a union iron worker and although I hate the knuckle busting bastards I carry a Kline mine is an older USA made one, I believe the new ones are China. I think the Williams is better the cheap one at Lows is a Crescent brand and they ****. For regular spuds the best three are Bethlehem Steel, Woodings & Varona (TVA), and American Bridge these companys no longer make tools but can still be found on E bay. I have a set of TVA and AB spuds but would love a set of BIS if anyone has a set affordable ones up for grabs.

Between Klein, Crescent, Williams and Proto, the 15" Proto spud has taken the most abuse of what I've owned. The 10" Crescent has taken more than it's fair share of abuse with minimal damage, and is just an insanely handy little tool. I think the 10" ran $18 at our local industrial joint.

If you don't really need the wrench part, maybe a small and large bull ***** (bull pin) would be the answer.

I'm going to revive this old thread for fun. I wanna show off my Klein adjustables they are made in the USA, and I haven't had them for more than a year.

Klein, Proto, Crescent, Gray Tools. All nice, but usually $$$$$

TSC and Home Depots around here sell a 16" "Dewalt" brand for $40. I've seen a lot of millwrights and ironworkers with it in their box, and they seem to like it.

I picked up a 12" "Titan" brand from Princess Auto a couple weeks ago for $11.99, And for the price, I can't complain! It'll be used as a spud, a bull pin, and a hammer, and I don't care!

I have that Dewalt one, works great for setting up machinery in the plant, I have no issues with it.
