Never seen one of these,
Me neither! There are many categories of adjustable crescent-type wrenches beyond the most common (worm gear), including levers, wedges, rack-and-pinion, and other mechanisms, we have an entire thread devoted to exploring the oddball alternatives, and I have looked through most of the 1,874 US Patents for adjustable wrenches on DATAMP, and I don't recall seeing anything like this before, even as a type or category of adjustable, let alone that particular wrench.
...thought it was pretty cool,
Agreed! Ingenious in its simplicity. The steel "shims" as the guy in the video calls them remind me of the leaves or blades of a thickness or feeler gauge. I wonder how thick each one is? Since it's of German origin, whatever the thickness is, it's almost certainly measured in metric.

But I agree with this concern...
...not sure of its durability for HD use.
I am sure the blades would eventually get compressed and distorted with enough torque.

And I would add awkwardness, as well. The blades folded back to increase the capacity of the opening would present usability issues and access problems.

I didn't realize there was an adjustable wrench thread, if a mod wants to fold this one into that one it might simplify things ever so minutely.
