Thought I would share my recent tale concerning Advance Auto.
My Forester was having an occasional miss which eventually shut it down. A quick check revealed that the coil was not firing on one cylinder. I picked one up at Advance Auto Parts and threw it on. Still no spark so I dropped it at the dealer expecting to be told I had to replace the ECU. $152 in diagnostics later they determined the new coil was also NG. Put in a new OEM one and the car runs fine. I took the coil back to the store and they refunded the price of the coil and suggested I talk to their corporate office about the remainder of the bill. Having worked in the motorcycle aftermarket I was well aware that part liability is limited to the cost of the part, but I sent Advance an email. Less than 24 hours later I get a call from the manager of the store saying his corporate called and told him to offer me ½ the dealer’s bill. I was totally cool with that as I expected them to tell me to pound sand. Nice to know that there is still some level of customer service still out there in the good old USA.
