Advanced home scan tool?

Hey guys. Thinking about selling my actron cp9690, bluedriver and innova 3160b and replacing them with one comprehensive unit. What's Out there in the 300$ range that covers a ton of cars and has advanced features? I miss using snap on units (not the brick) but don't have that kind of money.

I hear good things about the software-based scan tools. Never used one.

I bought a used professional-grade scanner rather than a new consumer-grade unit. You're probably not going to do that for $300, though (depending on how new you need the software to cover.)

It's more than $300 but I have Auto enginuity for home use. I like it pretty good, it can program some keys, do abs bleeds, and control stuff like fans and fuel pumps, plus injector disabiling for diagnosis. I originally bought the North American bundle in 2007 to diagnose a bad injector on my 6.0 powerstroke diesel ( it has a limited cylinder balance test for Fords, not quite as good as the Ford tools but decent). I upgraded in 2010 and last month. $150 for the update, good for one year so I'll update again just before it expires.

You can buy individual car makes to fit what you own, or regional such as North America (Ford, gm, Chrysler), euro, or Asian in bundles. One region, or up to five makes I believe.

With out a doubt the best used scan tool you can lay hands on for under $200 is the OTC Genisys. Just make sure to either get the Evo, or a "red" button earlier model.

There is avalible coverage up to 2015 (plus generic up to today). I bought one for $99.00, spent another $15 on a new battery, and another $55 on software that's good up till 2013.
For less than $200, I can read and clear any system in any module for any car I've run across. It has bi-directional controls for activating window motors, fans, door locks, and more, as well as live data and custom data pids, and has many tips built in from Idenitfix included.

Yes, its a dated design, but Bang for the buck, there is nothing that comes close.
