Recently I've been wanting to get some Torx Plus sockets and bits. Regular Torx is pretty ubiquitous at this point but Torx Plus is not easily found on the shelf. I started with little kits from Cornwell from ebay as I like chrome nano style sockets.
I already had a set of Torx bit sockets but only had a partial cheap set of E Torx sockets. I figured I'd add a complete set on the order but one thing I remember from another thread, low profile Torx bolt heads require flat sockets.
As you can see here the difference between regular E Torx and flat cut E Torx sockets. Both these examples are from Laser and are standard Taiwan quality. I then added some Torx Plus bit sockets from TP 10-80 as the little bit sets aren't going to cut it for the big stuff. Laser doesn't offer a 1/4 drive set.
Then I added the big E Torx Plus set in the foam that also has been previously mentioned in another thread. It's available under a bunch of different brands.
But me not reading correctly and thinking things were like the normal E Torx sockets, alas the sockets that come in the foam are security 5 lobe E Torx. I knew the security Torx Plus bits are 5 lobe but I didn't think there was matching sockets. Looking in the catalogue shows the 5 lobe are only available in the foam and the 6 lobe on separate rails. Another order for the 6 lobe E Torx Plus sockets...
Notice any thing missing? Of course in its journey across the Atlantic ocean, the 1/2 drive sockets left the paper bag Amazon calls packaging and now waiting on Amazon to decide if they will send me a replacement.
I do have to say that the 5 and 6 lobe sockets are really nicely finished. Not sure if they are repackaged from an official supplier as they are fully stamped Torx Plus. While the 5 lobes are available from many sources, I could only find the matching 6 lobes ones from Laser as most brands are impact rated.
Hopefully this might help someone not make the mistake that I did as the information on Torx Plus isn't widely pictured or described.
