Advice for a 24x36 shop

Hi all,

I'm a long time reader of the GJ, and am in the planning process for a 24x36 shop sometime in the next couple of years. I have 3.5 acres in Central Oregon, and a few ideal spots on my property for the shop. I'm looking for a very simple, but modern (shed roof) look. I am considering pole barn, steel and stick built.

I could use some help from the community on rough estimates per SF on those three types of structures. I plan to do power and water only, no restroom. Two garage doors, one man door, with the bonus space for a small shop.

Any suggestions or lessons learned would be helpful. Thanks!

Can you tell us about the intended use(s), heating & cooling considerations, if the interior will be finished or rough, and what the frost depth is in your area? Those are all important details.

Also will you be matching a house with exterior finishes or is the all-metal-skin going to be OK?

I am guessing the codes probably will not allow water without a septic.(drilling a well that is) At least it was that way for my neighbor when he build his shop many years ago (Central Oregon too)That is not even in the most regulated county out here either. (Deschutes)Might as well move/stay in Portland or Seattle for the Cluster F**K

No longer being a Web Foot, my family moved from Portland almost 70 years ago, I have no current knowledge of conditions in your area.

I have found that all projects seem to take longer than estimated and seldom come in within the proposed budget.

Good Luck with your project.

Get an education on metal buildings as it pertains to Insulation, humidity control, overall moisture Control , condensation that may cause water dripping from the roof.

get a bigger bldg, my 24x30 is tight, after toolbox and part storage, room for one car. you dont need a separate room, it will eat your real estate up. need a separate room, get 40x50 at minimum, and make sure you have 12 feet at eaves
