Advice for levelling floor

Hello, I am looking for some advice with levelling my garage floor. I have an attached slightly larger than normal singe brick built garage. The concrete floor was laid in 1956 when the house was built. Its not very level and the stones used in the concrete are quite large and stick up all over the place.

I want to get the floor more level before I paint it. I cant really afford to remove the slab and re-lay the full thing. I have had a look at hiring a diamond grinder but they seem really expensive and I'm not too sure my neighbours would be pleased with all the dust!

I was looking online and came across a few suggestions (not on gj) where people say to do a 6 part sand and 1 part cement mix with water and apply over the top of the existing slab. Have any of you done this and do you know if this would be ok? I was thinking of doing it and having it on average about 1/2 and inch thick. I'm just slightly worried that a cement and sand mix wouldn't be strong enough and haven't heard of doing this before.

Photos and more info are needed. It could take a lot of material. I would fortify the mix with an additive to make it stronger. Local contractor supply house will have a selection of admixtures that will bring the strength up, and would provide a primer/bonding agent.

That will not be strong enough. A polymer resurfacer is one option but they apply thin, 1/16" thick approx.

Have you considered a modular tile product?
