If you Own absolutely no duplicates of that stuff, and absolutely have to have that particular stuff, then yes 500 is worth the one stop shopping.
As just a conglomeration of duplicate tools and no need for them, it's a solid pass.
If it's for resale by you, I wouldn't do it for the slight profit of breaking it all down.
Something to remember on Craigslist and the like:
If it's been on for three days, you don't have an EXACT need, and you buy it;
You're the greatest fool in that Craigslist community.
Not one of the other 5,000 or 50,000 viewers saw value enough to take action.
Loose in drawers and not as neatly presented, I just turned down twice that much snap on for 100 bucks.
Didn't need it. Left it for others.

It all depends on the condition and how fast you want to have the tools.
If it's a complete sets with both Metric and SAE in 1/4,3/8 and 1/2 drives with ratchets, extensions and speed drives that I see and everything is in great condition, it is well worth it.
However, if you are in no rush, you may collect everything over time and spend much less. However, it will be time consuming.
Some of examples of what I paid for SO:
1/4 ratchet TM-76 (orange), 3/8 flex head ratchet TM711, 1/4 breaker bar TMM10, 1/4 handle socket driver TM4, 1/4 4" extension (two) TMX-4, 1/4 10" extension TMX100, ratchet spinner adaptor TMS70 $80
Snap On 3/8 breaker bar F-10L, 1/4 breaker bar, 2" extension, 5/16 socket, (the last 3 from 1944 and 1945), 4 SAE marked wrenches (owners name)+1 unmarked, 5 large SAE Blue point wrenches, Blue point adjustable 10" wrench, SO pick, possibly several sockets - around $10-20 (got a huge load of tools for $35 (listed somewhere on Sales thread))
Sockets probably come out at $0.25-$1 when you try to guess their part in larger lots.
Thus, if you spend time, you can definitely collect over time for less than $500.
From another hand - I am in no rush, do not need them urgently, this is my hobby and it will probably take me at least a year or two to slowly get 1/4 and 3/8 sets together at current speed.
I also do not give a specific preference to Snap On after I learned that the lifetime warranty comes only if you bought the tools directly from them (or your father did). I tried to warranty a socket which developed a hairline crack and after honestly answering that I did not buy it directly from them (and that my father did not), I was told that unfortunately it's a no go for warranty. SK warrants their products better. Same for TEKTON. Is the 10% improvement over SK with lack of warranty (though it's a rarity to break something) worth the extra money for me - NO. However, I will pick up SO if they come at the right price as I like their tools.
Note: I am not a professional mechanic and use my tools for DIY projects on the car and around the house. Thus I do not really need professional tools - I just prefer them...
If I was a professional mechanic and I needed tools quick - would definitely pay $500 and not spend any time. Otherwise - not...
