I picked up a nice little Rock Island 605A that was in very nice shape, but still will need a light resto. Not being too familiar with RI's, can anyone here tell me how the lead screw is held to the unit? There was a crimp washer on it and at the beginning or the threads is a very small weld, disallowing it to move down the shaft. Is this factory? I'll post more pics in an hour or so...thanks for any input!

I'm having a similar issue with my Rock Island. The screw has a slight bit of movement in the head.

Yes, the screw seems to have been crimped and/or welded into the head. In addition, the movement seems lateral as well as radial, as if it were screwed into the head.

Anyone ever removed or repaired a Rock Island screw, so we can confirm how it is designed and held in the head?
