Advice Needed

I’ve got a few cars in the fleet of family cars . My wife’s car, my truck, plus three teenager cars . I’ve got a neighbor who is a mechanic that lives across the street who has helped me a lot . I’ve been working on my nephews Chevy Trax chasing an oil leak. I finally traced it to the timing cover .

The neighbor comes over and helps as we have time , I don’t want to take up too much of his free time. Ya know since he turns wrenches all week . I’ve offered to pay him for his help but he says he’s just being a good neighbor.

So my question is what do you for a neighbor/friend who has really helped you a lot more than you could ever repay. He’s probably already got every he’d ever need.

Sorry for the long post but I figured I’d ask other guys what to do?

Oh, and try to be available if he needs a hand of course.

Gift card to a restaurant for him and his wife to show appreciation and so she will be inclined to let him keep coming outside to play.

Your profile also shows you as a service plumber. maybe let him know that he can count on you to occasionally save a few dollars. He will likely appreciate your help and skills as much as you do his.

I often help our neighbor, who is a widow and hasn't got two nickels to rub together. She kept trying to pay us, which we respectfully declined. Now she shows up with a plate of homemade cookies once in a while, which is a great way to show that she cares and appreciates the help.

I have a friend who's retired and a talented mechanic and I occasionally rely on him for help. He's never asked for money, but I know what he likes to earn per hour when he works for others that are not his friends. I make a point of putting some cash in his toolbox when he's not looking. He's never said a word about it.

2 good steaks these days can be $50. Grab 2 and it'll be hard to say no.
I'm a long time believer in "horse trading" time or skills. The trouble can be some just don't get it and it's one sided. Make sure that he knows you'll be right there for anything plumbing, from a dripping faucet to a hot water heater or simply a quick hand carrying something.
